Dad had mom in a choke hold.
That’s the message a child relayed to Southfield’s 911 dispatcher at 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 19, calling from her home in the 21000 block of Potomac. She and her two sisters were witnessing a fight between their parents, and ultimately, their father killing their mother.
“They tried to intervene, and finally got dad to let go of their mom, but she fell to the floor and was unresponsive,” said Southfield Police Lt. Nick Loussia.
The father fled.
Police and paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the 32-year-old woman to Providence Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The children, ages 8, 11 and 16, confirmed to police what had occurred, Loussia said. They were turned over to their grandmother’s care.
“Our officers attempted to locate the suspect and were able to find him a short time later in the city of Detroit,” Loussia said of the 38-year-old. “He was placed under arrest without incident.”
“We anticipate completing the investigation sometime today, forwarding it to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, and arraignment will possibly be tomorrow or the day after,” Loussia said Tuesday.
