Custodial dad breaks twin boy's ribs (Laredo, Texas)

Note that dad PEDRO LOPEZ admits he had custody of his 1-year-old twin boys, presumably at the mother's bequest. Given that abusers like Lopez have a tendency to pursue custody in order to punish/control the mother, I find it doubtful that this arragement was truly the mother's choice. At any rate, the babies are now in CPS custody.

A father confessed to an alleged abuse after a discovery at a local medical clinic. Laredo police arrested 30-year-old Pedro Lopez for allegedly breaking the ribs of his twin boys. Police say Lopez had taken his one-year-old twins to a local clinic after one had been sick. When a physician examined one of the boys, he noticed signs of physical abuse. It was later determined that one of the little boys had 8 fractured ribs. The other had two fractured ribs. Authorities say Lopez told officers he was given custody of the children by their mother and had never cared for the babies. He says they were crying and remembers squeezing them in an attempt to make them stop.

Police arrested Lopez on charges of injury to a child. He was taken to the Webb County Jail on no bond. Child Protective Services now has custody of the twin boys.
