The teenager accused of killing his 3-month-old son remained in Bexar County Jail on Tuesday, a day after his charges were upgraded from injury to a child to capital murder.
Matthew John Resendez, 19, was held on a $1 million bail after police issued a second arrest warrant affidavit Monday charging him with capital murder, authorities said.
He is accused of killing his infant son, Holden Resendez, who died Friday night at University Hospital after being taken off life support.
The baby was hospitalized early Thursday after EMS and police were called to an apartment in the 17000 block of Henderson Pass because the child was not breathing, San Antonio homicide Sgt. Jim Cole said.
The infant's skull was fractured, there was bleeding of the brain, bruising around the right eye and possible rib fractures, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Resendez told police, “I did hurt him,” adding that the boy's head hit the wooden headboard when he was placed on the bed, the affidavit said.
