Dad arrested for "allegedly" choking sick son (Sioux City, Iowa)

Dad JUAN AMBRIZ "allegedly" choked his son--presumably to keep him from throwing up when he got sick? I can't even begin to wrap my head around that....

DHS now has "temporary" custody. And notice that there isn't one word about the mother. Is this a single dad?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY - A South Sioux City man has been charged with child abuse for allegedly choking his son when the child became ill, documents state.

According to court documents, Juan Ambriz, 42, is scheduled to face felony charges of child abuse and strangulation at an arraignment Nov. 29 in Dakota County District Court.

Police wrote in court documents that a school nurse alerted them Oct. 12 that one of the students at the South Sioux City elementary school reported being choked.

According to court documents, the boy reported his father, Ambriz, grabbed him around the neck to stop him from throwing up the night before. Police wrote they observed red marks on the child's neck, a bruise across the length of his lower back and petichial hemorrhaging around his eye.

“There were distinct abrasions in the shape of fingers around the right side of his neck,” police wrote in the documents.

According to court documents, officials from the Department of Human Services took temporary custody of the boy and a sibling.

Although court records indicate Ambriz was arrested Oct. 12, an official with the Dakota County Jail said he was no longer listed as an inmate Thursday night.
