Two-month-old baby dies from head injuries, dad jailed (Manassas, Virginia)

Dad HENRY LUSVIN MORALES was already in jail on felony child abuse charges, even before his 2-month-old son finally died as result of his serious head injuries.

Notice how this article panders to popular Tea Party-inspired prejudices. Why is this father's immigration status relevant in the slightest? Whether he's documented, un-documented, or a full U.S. citizen has nothing to do with the murder of this baby. And yet a question which should be relevant to this story--WHERE IS THIS BABY'S MOTHER?--isn't mentioned even in passing. Guess this Daddy got this baby from a passing stork?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

Infant dies of injuries

MANASSAS, Va. --
A 2-month old baby boy hospitalized since October with serious head injuries died Saturday, police said.

The infant's father, 25-year-old Henry Lusvin Morales of Daisy Court near Manassas, has been jailed since Oct. 17 on charges of felony child abuse and aggravated malicious wounding.

Prosecutors on Monday did not immediately return a call to ask if the charges would be upgraded.

Morales is an illegal immigrant and county police have notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Police were called to the Morales home about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 17 for a report of an infant not breathing. Doctors found that Dominick Morales was suffering critical head and internal injuries, Perok said.

Infants and children under 3 years old are the most frequent victims of child abuse, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Last year, 1,760 children in the U.S. died as a result of abuse or neglect. In nearly 70 percent of those cases, a parent was responsible, the agency reports.

Morales is being held at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail without bond, and on a detainer from ICE, a jail spokeswoman said.
