(NewsCore) - A young couple and their two children were found shot to death in an apartment in Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday morning alongside a wounded two-year-old, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Detectives were investigating the incident as a murder-suicide and believe the father was the gunman, Lt. Tom Eberlein of the Erie Police Department told the paper.

Police found the 29-year-old father, 28-year-old mother and two of their children -- aged 7 and 4 -- dead in the home after acquaintances of the mother dropped by the apartment Saturday morning and discovered the slain family.

The couple's youngest child, a 2-year-old, suffered a minor gunshot wound and was taken to the Hamot Medical Center, the Post-Gazette reported.

Erie, in western Pennsylvania on the banks of Lake Erie, is about 100 miles from both Buffalo, New York, to the northeast, and Cleveland, Ohio, to the southwest.
