Dad charged after 7-week-old son hospitalized with multiple fractures (Las Vegas, New Mexico)

Dad MATTHEW SANDOVAL SR. has been charged with child abuse after it was determined that his 7-week-old infant son's multiple fractures were not accidental. (Daddy claims he accidentally sat on the baby--riiight.) And while Daddy was doing all this "sitting," where is this baby's mother? Who knows, since she has been written entirely written out of the story. Why? Did Daddy just find this baby under a cabbage leaf or what?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

Dad Charged In Baby's Injuries

A Las Vegas, N.M., man faces a child abuse charge after a hospital worker determined that the multiple injuries to his 7-week-old son were not accidental.

Matthew Sandoval Sr., 18, took his son to Alta Vista Regional Hospital on Sept. 23 after he said he "heard a pop" when he sat on a futon and accidentally sat on the boy's leg, according to a police affidavit for an arrest warrant.

But a doctor called police after X-rays showed that the boy had suffered "multiple healing rib fractures" in addition to a fracture to his left femur.

The boy was transferred to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where a Child Abuse Response Team doctor determined that Sandoval was not telling the truth.

The doctor told police that the injury to the boy's femur could not have been caused by his father sitting on his leg and that his injuries "are the result of physical abuse on at least two different occasions," according to the affidavit.

In all, the boy suffered a fractured left femur, 10 fractured ribs and seven other "acute" fractures," the report reads.

Sandoval was charged with a single count of abuse of a child late last week after a police investigation.
