Dad accused of killing 2-month-old son while assaulting mom (Canton, Ohio)

Notice the misleading language--typical in news accounts about domestic violence. Dad and mom are supposedly in a "domestic fight." That implies TWO individuals who are disagreeing in a vigorous fashion who, perhaps, come to blows.

But there is NOTHING in this account that suggests that this is, in fact, what was happening. The mother was holding the baby, so obviously her hands were not free to punch or throw things. And the article reports no violent activity on the mother's part. It was the father who appears to be doing all throwing (or possibly punching, hitting, kicking, etc.). HE was the one who killed the baby.

So this is not a mutual "fight." It was clearly a one-sided assault and murder. But as usual, women are tainted as "participants" in male violence against women and children--even when there is NO EVIDENCE that this was the case.

Dad is identified as ANTHONY B. GROVE.

CANTON The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of a nearly two-month-old boy a homicide.

Zeeland Grove, born Dec. 15, was killed by a blow to the head, Investigator Gary Guenther said.

The infant’s father, Anthony B. Grove, of Canton, is accused of throwing a coffee mug that struck and killed him Tuesday morning. Canton police believe the boy’s mother was holding him during a domestic fight at 821 10th St. NW.

The infant died from the head injury about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Grove, 33, is being held at the Stark County Jail on charges of murder, child endangering, domestic violence and a warrant for failure to appear in a theft case. He will make his initial appearance in court Thursday morning.
