Nigeria: Police Arrest Father for Injuring Son With Pressing Iron

Lokoja — Kogi state police command has paraded a 49 year old school principal, Christopher Ogbeun for allegedly inflicting injuries on his 10 year old son, Stephen Ogbeun.

Parading the suspect, the state Commissio-ner of Police, Mr Mohammed Musa Katsina said the suspect accused the boy of destroying vital documents saying that it took the intervention of the Special Ambush Squad to free the child from the father's grip as he was ready to kill his son.

Katsina said the suspect tied up the boy's hand and closed his mouth, using hot pressing iron on his body. According to him, the suspect inflicted high degrees of injuries on the boy who was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja for treatment.

"The suspect accused the boy of destroying a document. He unlawfully detained him and applied hot pressing iron severally on the boy's body. He would be charged to court for unlawful detention, inflicting injuries on the boy and attempted murder," he said.

Speaking with journalists the suspect confessed to the crime, saying the boy destroyed his school letter of approval from West African Examination Council. "When I asked him to tell me the truth, he refused and I used pressing iron on him," the suspect said.

Meanwhile, the boy was sleeping when our reporter visited the Hospital but attempt to speak with the Hospital authority on the issue was unsuccessful as they declined comment.
