LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – A 37-year-old Lansing man was charged in district court on Monday of open murder and first degree child abuse in connection with the death of his 3-month-old daughter, Janayjah Sanders.
The suspect, John Sanders, appeared in district court on Monday via a television arraignment. In court, details revealed the alleged abuse happened in the 3800 block of Walton Street sometime last week.
Officials say the baby was taken to an area hospital on Friday afternoon with serious internal injuries, and died later that night.
Sanders has had several other run-ins with the law prior to this incident—he has two 2011 drug-related convictions in Eaton County, and a second degree burglary charge in Oklahoma in 2005.
A pre-exam conference for Sanders will take place on January 15, 2013 at 1:15 p.m.
