Custodial dad who beat 8-year-old son so badly the boy is now disabled ALSO beat the mother so bad she was driven out of the home (Nigeria)

Gosh, don't you just love the passive tense? Mom "was forced to flee his home due to domestic violence." Let's rewrite this with active tense verbs, shall we? How about this: her sh**head husband beat her so badly she was forced to flee the home to save her life. And then a corrupt legal system refused to arrest the man who assaulted her, so he retained control and custody over the children.

So what happens when you grant a violent father who beat their mother custody of her children? TA DA! He beats the children too! So now this boy is apparently permanently disabled and in a wheelchair. Who would have thunk it?

Now the sh**head is getting treatment for his high blood pressure (poor dear!) while the mother got nothing. Sickening.

Dad is identified as ALEX OKAFOR.

Father who brutalised 8-yr-old son in Abuja arrested; says he did it for love

The man who brutalised his son in Abuja said he did that because of his deep love for the boy.

The man who brutalised his 8-year-old son, Chukwuma Okafor, using a pestle to break his leg and hand in the process in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has been arrested after a lot of outrage and media coverage of the dastardly act.

The man who has been identified as Alex Okafor, a 45-year-old resident of Gbazango village in Kubwa, a satellite town in the FCT, however, told the police that it was his love for his son that made him beat him up that much that he was left in a wheelchair in the Kubwa General Hospital.

Okafor added that he chose to discipline his son that way out of his deep love for him because he stole meat out of four packs of food and also refused to do his home work.

A police source narrated that Okafor alleged that he had bought food for his four children but Chukwuma decided to steal all the meat in the food packs meant for his siblings.

“The suspect added that when he asked the boy, he denied and he (father) had to go back to the restaurant to accuse them of giving him food without meat,” the source said.

It was also gathered that Okafor is a single father as his wife, the mother of the children, was forced to flee his home due to domestic violence.

The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying he is presently under police custody at the Kubwa General Hospital where he is receiving treatment having complained of high blood pressure.

Spate of child abuse dominated by fathers (Nigeria)

Notice that every example involves a father. Not one mother. Just one step.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201509161357.html

Nigeria: On the Spate of Child Abuse

As children resume for another school year, the gravity and magnitude of the horrific incidents of child abuse during the holiday period should be food for thought for parents, counsellors, school managers as well as authorities concerned with the protection of children.

During the long holiday, newspapers were awash with shocking cases of child abuse in the same manner the electronic media featured them. In many newspapers, no day passed without a reportage of rape cases, many of which were perpetrated by fathers and uncles or some familiar care-giver.

Of equal frequency was the hyped value of corporal punishment, which was taken to the level of absurdity as fathers turn their homes into torture chambers. For instance, eight year-old Shina Adegbola, a primary three pupil had his buttocks lacerated by his father who bloodied them with a stick because the poor boy stole his N500. The boy, who later returned the money upon request, claimed he stole the money because he was hungry, and his father and stepmother refused to feed him.

Kafayat, a 12 year-old girl, had her body scourged with wire whips by her father, when she intervened in a violent domestic squabble between her umemployed father and mother. Five year-old Olamilekan had bloody sores on his body inflicted on him when his father beat him with wire whips. Another five year-old, was so brutally beaten by his father that he had a broken neck. Precious, a nine year-old, had burns on his arms inflicted by his father who used pressing iron on him. The same kind of injury was inflicted on another Kafayat, 16, by her father.

In a suburb of Calabar, Cross River State, another frustrated father, Monday Okon Inyang, attempted to sell his 11-year-old son, David for N100,000 before being arrested by police. The unemployed and impecunious Inyang claimed his son confessed that he was a wizard and was responsible for his father's predicament.

What is curious in all this is that these kids did not want to return to their homes for fear of the monster, they call parents.

Contrary to the views of perpetrators who justified the use of extreme punishment and physical violence as a way of training the child, rights groups and experts in child psychology and education are unanimous that inflicting injuries and physical assault on a child is neither punishment nor any means of reforming or correcting a child. Like these experts have rightly submitted, waywardness of a child should be blamed on an interplay of economic, social and physical environment in which a child is brought up. In the same vein, the harsh economic environment, with its effect on the emotional stability and psychological state of parents and guardians, is adduced as a reason for abuse. Others are the abysmal family lifestyle of individualism and atomisation that creates an absence of communication between parent/guardian and children, the tensed, overcrowded squalid environment with their susceptibility to aggression and violence, and also the traditional belief that extreme punishment is tantamount to child training.

Whatever the justification given, extreme punishment and infliction of injuries have negative effects on children. The experiences of child psychologists and psychiatrists as well as everyday happenings are not enough to make all appreciate the rampancy of this monstrosity. Like all other kinds of child abuse, maltreatment of children or infliction of injuries destroys quality parent-child relationship, creating a situation of mistrust and animosity. It dehumanises the child and imbues him or her with a low self-esteem and poor self value that may develop into emotional problems in future. It also perpetrates a tradition of aggression and abuse; for maltreated children are likely to inflict such negative treatments on their own children when they become adults. Above all, extreme punishment in the form of frequent physical violence and infliction of injury are likely to negatively affect the cognitive function of the child.

If the saying, today's children are the leaders of tomorrow, is anything to go by, then public and private initiatives must synergise to safeguard the future of these abused children. In this regard, observant adults and neighbours should endeavour to report cases of abuse, as was the case of a nurse at the Igando General Hospital, in Lagos who having observed the gravity of injuries allegedly inflicted on Shina by his father, the child earlier mentioned, tactfully got his address and phone and reported the erring father to a civil society organisation for action.

On its part, government and relevant authorities should effectively enforce the Child Rights Act by ensuring that parents, care-givers and formal guardians who infringe on the rights of children are prosecuted. Often, many parents have resorted to religious injunctions and some uncritical submissions of African traditions as justifications for wanton abuse of children. While the regularly cited communitarian practice of the African may be upheld for its benefit to foster collective responsibility for the safety of the child, the pedagogic and social value of this practice must be questioned when it sets extreme punishment and physical violence as a guide for moral education.

Besides, civil organisations, faith-based associations and cultural groups should educate parents and parents-to-be on the tasking responsibilities of parenting. These bodies should disseminate positive personality -enhancing methods of corrections such as regular family meetings, positive reinforcement of behaviour, amongst others. Parents, guardians and care-givers should be made to understand that whilst discipline is a necessary condition for proper education of children, inflicting injuries and violent approaches to child training amount to abuse.

Custodial dad who "sent mother away" arrested for torturing, abandoning 4-year-old son (Lagos, Nigeria)

The details may differ from culture to culture and from country to country--just as they do from one individual case to the next. But for the most part, these cases are broadly the same.

Once again, we have a violent, abusive controlling father who somehow eliminates the mother from the picture. In the west, it might be through the family courts, where mothers are (mistakenly) led to believe that they have legal rights over their children. In other cases, especially in more conservative countries that are more openly patriarchal, and where women are divorced and driven out of the home by the husband's say so--women will lose their children in a more "informal" and openly violent manner.

The end result in too many cases is more or less the same. The abusive father now has custody (full possession) of the child. So what does he do? Because the motivation is not love, but control and/or hatred of the mother, he abuses the child without mercy. Even abandons the child as long as HE is the one doing the abandoning.

Naïve people would assume that he could have left the child with the mother then, if he wasn't interested in caring for the child. Wrong. He had no interest in caring for anybody. But that's not the point. It was all about hurting and controlling mom and having a free punching bag.

Dad is identified as SIKIRU MUSTAPHA.

A middle aged man, Sikiru Mustapha, has been arrested for severely torturing his four-year-old son and abandoning the toddler at a bus stop in the Iwaya area of Yaba, Lagos.

There were tears in the eyes of onlookers who saw the kid, identified as Lekan, with bruises all over his body when he was picked up by a neighbour and handed him over to a non-governmental agency who then took him to the police at the Sabo Police Division.

The police acted fast on this and subsequently arrested the recalcitrant father.

According to another neighbour of the man, Mustapha had sent the boy's mother away and married a new wife who has been maltreating the kid with the ultimate being the recent incident.

“Lekan has a long history of torture from his father. He is poorly taken care of, beaten and left to wander in the area. As young as he is, the father beats him without mercy. On Tuesday, (June 9), he was beaten up as usual. But this time, he was abandoned at a bus station.

One of the residents of this area found him and took him to an NGO. He was then taken to the Sabo Police Division, and the police arrested the father.

"Sikiru has a new wife who is a nursing mother. She should have cautioned her husband against maltreating the boy, but she did not."

The boy has been taken to a children's hospital in Surulere and is said to be recuperating while the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Kenneth Nwosu says his father has been charged to court.

"We arrested the suspect for maltreating his son. He has been taken to court in company with some personnel from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice."

Custodial dad stabs daughter's legs with hot knife (Nigeria)

Note that dad AZAMA's custody status is not spelled out, but it can be clearly inferred by the fact the fact that there is a step, but the mother's existence is erased.

Once again, with a father this vicious, you have to wonder what happened to this girl's mother. Is she alive? Did she "disappear"? If she is deceased, do we know for a fact that it was from natural causes?

Wicked father slices hot knife on daughter’s leg for returning home late

A wicked father has been declared wanted after he inflicted severe injuries on his 17-year-old daughter with a hot knife because she returned home late from hawking Donkunu (local maize meal).

The girl who gave her first name as Senami, said that she had earlier returned home but went back to collect money from some people who owed her her but when she got back, her father, identified as Azama, a native of Benin Republic but resident in Badagry area of Lagos State, descended on her and after beating and torturing her, resorted to using a hot knife to cut her legs with the connivance of her step-mother, Rukayat, whom she hawked the food for.

The incident which happened on Sunday, May 4, saw the father fleeing after committing the atrocious act and the police are now on his trail.

It was one of her teachers in school that saw the injuries on the girl and the school authorities took her to the social welfare office in Badagry which referred the case to the Ajeromi Police Station.

Narrating her ordeals in the hands of her parents, the girl said:

"On May 4, after I came back from hawking, daddy ordered me to go back and collect the N500 my customers owed me. I came back home late. I did not know my father had put a knife on the fire. He tied my leg and started stabbing me with the knife.

When I got to the school the following day, my teacher, Mr. Okoafose, took me to a welfare office and we all went to a police station."

A staff of the welfare organisation said they will do everything to bring the culprit to book for grossly abusing the child.

"The subject (Senami) reported that she hawked Dokunu every day after school. This is a clear case of child abuse. It is high time parents stopped this inhumane act. We will ensure that the father is arrested."

Dad arrested for beating death of 4-year-old son (Lagos, Nigeria)

Sounds like CHRIS ELVIS is a single father, as there is no mention of the boy's mother living in or even moving into the compound in question. Wonder what happened to the mother? With a father this unstable and violent, the question needs to be asked.

Abused 13-year-old boy in custody of father (allegedly) commits suicide (Nigeria)

Obviously, Nigeria is a very different country than the U.S. or Canada. Different languages, customs, and so on.

But remarkably the same in how a father with a history of child abuse STILL MANAGED to get full custody of this child--only for the child to end up dead in the home of the same father and the new step.

The media coverage shows the same evasions we see in the west as well. Notice that the headline announces the suicide as if it were a fact, but later we see that this is actually in doubt. It is very likely that these two somehow staged the boy's murder to look like a suicide.

Notice that, once again, very little is said about how the father got custody and who gave it to him. Nothing is said about previous domestic violence against the mother. Nothing is said about how or why these two maintained custody despite the abuse of this boy.

In that sense, this story could have happened anywhere, because we see the same damn pattern everywhere.

UNNAMED DAD.

13-yr old boy commits suicide in Ondo

A 13 year old primary five pupil, Awal Osisi has committed suicide in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

But the police in the state is working at some puzzles surrounding the alleged death of the boy just as his step mother is being detained.

We gathered that the boy committed suicide in his parents’ house located at High School area of Akure.

Awal was allegedly found in his parents’ room hanging by the door on Wednesday by using a belt to hang himself.

His step mother Mrs Rukayat Osisi reportedly raised alarm at about 10.00am when she discovered the dangling body of the boy in the room.

Rukayat a petty trader. claimed that she found the body of Awal in the room having committed suicide.

However, the police in the state is suspecting foul play, wondering why the step mother brought down the alleged dangling body of the boy before informing the police.

The woman was said to have gone to the ‘A’ Division at about 1.35 pm to report that her step-son was found dead in the room after killing himself.

Rukayat said she discovered the body of the boy in the room after he hanged himself with a belt tied to the handle of the door.

She said she had to remove the corpse of the deceased and take it to the State specialist hospital in Akure before reporting the incident at the police station.

However, reports gathered from the community showed that Awal has always been a victim of victimisation, oppression and child abuse by his father and the step- mother since his mother divorced the father some years ago.

We learnt that the step-mother together with the father has always been maltreating the boy and sending him on difficult errands.

It was learnt that the father works outside Akure and comes to Akure every weekend.

The father, it was gathered seized the boy’s school uniform and books following a report from the wife that the deceased misbehaved while the father was away in his station.

Single dad repeatedly rapes daughter, impregnates her three times (Nigeria)

Moronic dickhead father AUGUSTINE OBODEKE blames the rapes on his lack of a wife (Mom is deceased) and claims he didn't know that raping his own daughter was wrong.

Man impregnates daughter three times, says he did not know it is an abomination

By Wale Odunsi on December 29, 2013

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, one Augustine Obodeke, for repeatedly sleeping with his 17-year-old daughter (Favour), impregnating her three times.

Sunday Sun reports that the bubble finally burst, when the daughter became pregnant the third time and was unwilling to go for abortion.

According to a police report, the girl had cried out to neighbours, who then presented the case to the Ugbowo Police Station in Benin City.

Acting on the recount, the police arrested Obodeke and has since detained him.

Narrating her ordeal, Favour said her father started having sexual intercourse with her after the death of her mother.

“He first impregnated me and we went for abortion. My father impregnated me the second time and I went for another abortion. He had arranged a doctor at Uselu who has been doing the abortion.

“My father impregnated me the third time and told me that we should go for another abortion but I ran out of the house. He then threatened to deal with me if I told anybody what has been happening between us.

“I have to cry out early in the morning which prompted our neighbours to intervene. Since my mother was late, anytime my father requested for sex, I felt I had no choice than to allow him have sex with me”, Favour explained.

In his own account, Obodeke accepted that he had been sleeping with his daughter and had impregnated her thrice.

He, however, attributed it to the death of his wife and his inability to remarry.

“It is true that I have been having sex with my own daughter. When she became pregnant the first time, I took her to one of my doctors at Uselu Quarters who terminated the pregnancy.

“I impregnated her the second time and I took her to the same doctor who terminated the pregnancy again. It was when I impregnated her the third time that she refused to follow me to the doctor for the abortion.

“I decided to be having sex with my daughter because my wife is late and I have not remarried. I decided to enjoy my own daughter by having sex with her.

“I want my daughter to forgive me because I have sinned against her. Nobody told me that what I was doing to my daughter was an abomination. I thought I was enjoying the sex with my daughter”, he said.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, said the man was arrested on November 22, 2013.

He further explained that the doctor who terminated the first pregnancies was still at large, assuring that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

Custodial dad beats 3-year-old son to death for defecating on bed (Nigeria)

Sure, there are cultural differences. But in the main outline, the ways that killer dads justify and excuse their actions are remarkably the same, no matter what their country or culture.

Number #1 for these guys: it's always somebody else's fault. Notice that this POS blames "Satan" for "using him" to kill his son. So it's all about Daddy, how he's the real victim. Boo hoo.

Number #2: Killer dads who have managed to eliminate the mother in some way very frequently claim they were "abandoned." It's also a convenient way of blaming the mother for the father's violent actions. If only she were still here taking care of me me me!

In reality, these guys are nearly always lying and/or delusional about the mother. If this Daddy was capable of beating a sick child to death for having an accident, just how do you think he treated the mother? That he beat/tortured her is just about 100% certain. We just don't know whether he managed to kill her (blaming her death, no doubt, on "Satan") and then concealed the body, or whether she was driven out because of violence and death threats and unable to return.

Dad is identified as IKECHUKWU OKORO.

Father flogs three-year-old son to death for urinating on bed

By Ameh Comrade Godwin on September 29, 2013

A 26- year-old man, Ikechukwu Okoro is currently in custody of the Ebonyi State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for allegedly beating his three-year-old son, Chinedu to death.

Okoro, according neighbours woke up by 4.30am on September 13, 2013 to discover that his sick and only son had defecated on the bed.

Apparently angered by the boy’s action, he picked a cane and flogged him repeatedly until the boy gave up the ghost.

He rushed the dead boy to a nearby clinic but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
He told the police that he never knew what came over him, “It was out of annoyance that I flogged my son, Chinedu to death. The boy had been sick for some time. It was when I woke up around 4.30am that fateful day that I discovered that Chinedu had defecated on my mattress.

“He was the only son I had. When I discovered that he had defecated on the bed we were sleeping together. I went outside to look for a stick to flog him, just like any other normal father would have done to his recalcitrant child. I found a bitter leaf stick and used it to flog him twice. I didn’t know that it could lead to his death.

Okoro, a native of Isieta Amanato, in Isu Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, further explained that his wife, Uchechi abandoned him in 2009 with Chinedu, his only son who is now deceased.

He blamed Satan for the misfortune. “It was Satan that used me. When I was flogging him, I perceived an irritating odour from his mouth and I stopped flogging him immediately. I rushed him to a nearby clinic around my area. The same doctor that I took my son to, took us to another hospital. There, the doctors told me, after examination that my child was dead.”

Okoro said he could not believe it when he brought the corpse of his child home, and raised the alarm that attracted the attention of neighbours. “They came to ask me what killed my son. I confessed to them that he died as a result of the flogging I gave him because he defecated on my mattress.”

“My son had been sick, his stomach was swollen before I flogged him,” Okoro lamented.

One of the neighbours, Ogbonnaya Orie who was the only person who pleaded with Ikechukwu to stop beating his son said all his efforts fell on deaf ears. “And when Chinedu died, he begged me to assist him to bury the child, but I refused,” he said.

Ebonyi State Police Command through its State Criminal Investigations Department, (SCID) is currently interrogating Ikechukwu Okoro at Isieta Amanato Isu Onicha.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Abbati Dikko said that it was a shock to him that the suspect, Ikechukwu confessed to have flogged his own son, Chinedu to death.

The police Commissioner said the case was reported at Isu Onicha Divisional Headquarters of the police and the suspect was arrested with his son’s corpse. The CP said the case had been transferred to the State CID for further investigation. He said the suspect would be charged to court for murder.

Custodial dad arrested for raping two daughters (Lagos, Nigeria)

Note how Dad lied to his daughters, claiming the mother left him for another man. In reality, she was forced from the home by Daddy's beatings. She left the children with her mother, only to have Daddy take custody of them.

The rapist daddy is identified as ADEWALE ADELEKE.

This is not rocket science, people. This is what happens when abusive, battering men assume custody of children.

Father begs for forgiveness for defiling his two daughters

Policemen attached to Ikotun division in Lagos have arrested a man alleged to have been having carnal knowledge of his two daughters between the ages of 10 and 13, in the past two years.

His daughters reportedly claimed to have been going through what they described as horrible experience since their mother left them for another man.

Unable to resist their father, they endured until the elder girl confided in her friend’s mother, who then contacted some child rights groups.

The organisations were said to have effected the man’s arrest at his 29, Omooye Street, Abaranje, last Saturday and handed him over to policemen at Ikotun division.

Explaining, the elder child (names withheld) said: “Our father started it when I was 11 years old. I did not know he was doing same to my sister who was then eight years.

I only got to know when I saw her blood stained undies and when I demanded to know whether she had started seeing her monthly flow, she revealed that our father slept with her the previous night. He usually crept to either of us at night whenever he wanted to satisfy his urge. He was the one who dis-virgined us.”
I beg to be forgiven —Suspect

On his part, the 35-year-old suspect , a commercial bus driver identified as Adewale Adeleke, admitted to the police that he committed the sacrilegious act. He claimed, however, that he did not know what usually comes over him at that point.

Hear him: “I beg to be forgiven. This is the handiwork of the devil because I do not know what usually comes over me. What usually happened was that the urge would just come and before I know it, I would be with either of them.”

When news of the act reached the mother of the children who resides in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, she reportedly rushed to Lagos, where she was quoted as saying that she was shocked beyond words.

She reportedly said she was forced to leave her husband because of alleged battering, in spite of the fact that she was the one responsible for the upkeep of the home. She said while leaving, she handed her two children to her mother with the intention of sending them monthly allowance, only for their father to go and take them.

Executive Director of Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, said her foundation was making effort to ensure that the woman would take custody of her children, adding also that the arrest of the suspect was a first step to ensure that justice was done.

The two girls are now under police protection while their father will be arraigned at the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court by the police.

When contacted, Lagos State Police Command, Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ngozi Braide confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying that he would be arraigned in court soon.

Custodial dad claims he raped, impregnated teen daughter to "appease the gods" (Lagos, Nigeria)

It appears that the daughter's mother was underage as well, and lost custody of the baby (when the baby was two) to the paternal grandmother.  When the daughter was 12, dad WALE AKINUSI gained custody, with the rapes beginning almost immediately.

Notice that his wife had also left him (the stepmother, presumably). So once again, a girl is sexually abused once there is not a mother or mother figure in the home.

I Impregnated My Daughter To Appease The gods

The Human Right department of Ilemba Hausa Police Division, in Ojo area of Lagos has arrested a 49- year-old man who allegedly had been having carnal knowledge of his teenaged daughter for five years.

It was discovered during investigation that his daughter Janet(not real name)got pregnant in the process twice, only for her father to allegedly abort the pregnancy with the aid of a herbalist.

Sitting at a corner in the Human Rights Office, 17-year-old Janet could not raise her head to face her father, Wale Akinusi, who was also there. When approached, she simply stated that at last, she had been freed from the psychological trauma associated with her father’s sacrilegious act. Crime Alert gathered that Janet’s tale of woe started after her mother abandoned her barely when she was two-year-old for her paternal grandmother.

It was gathered that her mother who was then a Junior Secondary 3 student, was impregnated by Wale who was 32 years old. Initially, he reportedly denied paternity of the pregnancy but later opted for an abortion on the ground that he could not afford to father a child then because he was only an apprentice.

But his mother came to the rescue as she offered to take care of the baby who turned out to be Janet.

But when she was 12, her father, reportedly took her from her grandmother, with a promise to give her a better education.

Rather than live up to his promise, her father, allegedly use her to satisfy his sexual urge, a practice that went on until he was arrested.

Narrating how it all started, Janet in her sitting position with her head bowed all through, said: “When I was leaving my grandmother’s house, I was happy because my father said I would be attending a better school. But I waited for months without being enrolled in any school.

“One night, then, I was 12, my dad called me into his room and told me he took an oat with my mother to be the first man to have sex with me. He said it had a spiritual connotation and that it was to enable him assume his proper financial state.

“Then, I was too young to understand what he meant. He had carnal knowledge of me that night. At a point, he asked if it was painful. All I did was to watch him have his way, still unable to understand what he was doing.”

First pregnancy aborted by a herbalist

“It continued until I was 14 years. Then, I started having a funny feeling. I told him I was sick and when we conducted a pregnancy test, it was positive. Next day, he told me we were going somewhere and we ended up in the home of a herbalist in Ikorodu, who gave me some concoction. I drank some in his apartment and took the rest home. After two days, my menstruation started and my father assured me all was well.

He only gave me a week’s break before he continued all over again. Two years later, when I was 16 years, I got sick again. When I informed daddy, we went for another pregnancy test which confirmed my fear; I was pregnant again!

When he returned next day from his shop, he told me there was no need to go to the herbalist. Rather he gave me two sachets of Alabukun and squeezed some lime juice into a cup, asking me to take it in a gulp. It did the magic and the menstrual flow started few days later.”

“After the second abortion, I became tired of the whole thing. I started being afraid every night. At times, I would put tissue paper under my panties , pretending I was witnessing my monthly flow. After a while, he got the trick, for he started taking note of the date.

Challenges father

“I summoned courage and reported the sacrilegious act to our neighbors. But none of them could confront him. Rather they told me they could not interfere into our family affair” , she stated, with her head still bent.

Apparently discouraged by the cold reaction from the neighbors, Janet decided to take the bull by the horn. Looking straight into his father’s eyes for the very first time since the sacrilegious act started, she told her father she was tired of the whole thing. To make do her threat, she reportedly rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and threatened to stab him if he attempted to force her.

“This happened on November 28, 2012. My father had come home from his shop . And at about 6pm, he called me inside to warm his bed. But when he saw the knife, he retraced his steps. I quickly ran inside my room , with the knife in my hand and packed my things out of the house, to stay with a friend whose family welcomed me after I narrated all that has been going on in the past five years.”

“After spending three weeks with them, I received a text message from my father, asking me to come home, or I would die. When I showed the text message to the family I was putting up with, they suggested I reported the case to the police. I hesitated at first because I was scared he would be jailed.

“But I changed my mind when the text message threat continued”, she said.

I did that to appease the gods – father

When approached, it was obvious that 49-year-old Wale Akinusi, a fashion designer who hails from Ondo central in Ondo state was oblivious of the legal implication of the offense, as he showed no sign of remorse.

He bluntly told this reporter that what he did was not new under the sun, adding that this would not be the first time such story would be published on the pages of newspapers.

“It is not a new thing that a man has sex with his daughter and even if I am jailed at the end, I will surely come out after serving my jail term. But I promise that my daughter will join me” he threatened, dismissing the issue with a wave of the hand.

Continuing, he said: “I went back to claim my child so as to fulfill the oat made between her mother and I. That was why I took her to the herbalist when she was pregnant, so as to appease the gods of her mother’s land. You will not understand.

“You see, when her mother was six months pregnant, we made love. She later told me that it was a taboo for a man to sleep with a pregnant woman in her place. She said the only remedy was for the man to be the first person to sleep with the child.

“I initially did not want to do it. But along the line, I discovered that things were not going on well with me financially. And when I made inquiry, I was made to understand that I had to appease the god’s of her mother’s land, so as to attain my rightful place in destiny.”

Asked why he continued after the first time, he kept mute. Also asked why he did not satisfy his sexual urge on his wife who has had four children for him, he explained that they were leaving apart.

“My wife lives in Ketu with the children while I live in Ojo. I had to live apart because I do not want my wife and children to suffer the consequences of my sin. Also I did not want my wife to know I was sleeping with my own daughter”, he said.

Meanwhile, effort according to sources at the Human Rights department, was on to arrest the herbalist who allegedly gave Janet the concoction that aborted her first pregnancy, while her father would be charged to court.

Single dad jailed for raping 15-year-old daughter (Lagos, Nigeria)

The rapist daddy is identified as UDOM EMMANUEL. Notice that there was no mother in this home. Studies show that motherless children are far more vulnerable to sexual abuse by fathers and other men.

“He is therefore, convicted as charged and sentenced to three years imprisonment without option of fine,” Shomade ruled.

Dad gets 10 years in prison for abduction and killing of 3-week-old daughter; didn't want a child "outside wedlock" (Nigeria)

Dad is identified as JOSEPH MOSES. Note that there were apparently no charges for assaulting the murdered baby's mother. And that Daddy was convicted of manslaughter not homicide. Why?

Naval rating given ten years for drowning daughter

Joseph had gone to Glory Yusuf's place, abducted the baby, and thrown her into the lagoon

September 25, 2012 - 8:39am | By Patience Ogbo

A naval rating, Joseph Moses, who threw his three-week-old daughter into the Lagos Lagoon, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment for kidnap and manslaughter.

Moses was found guilty of kidnapping and killing his child, Happiness, on February 2, 2012.

He and some others had gone to his girlfriend, Glory Yusuf's house at Ajegunle, kidnapped the baby and beat the mother up.

Moses, a father of two, then threw the baby into the lagoon at Liverpool, Apapa, because he did not want a child outside wedlock.

A court martial was subsequently instituted by the naval authorities following a petition by Access To Justice on behalf of the baby's mother.

The court, which has been sitting for the past three months suffered several adjournments but on Monday, Moses was found guilty of a three count charge of kidnapping, manslaughter and misconduct under the Second Schedule of the Armed Forces Act.

A statement by Lt. Cmdr. Jerry Omodara, the Western Naval Command Information Officer on Monday, said the naval authorities found moses guilty and sentenced him accordingly.

“Joseph was found guilty on count one, which is kidnapping and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. He was also found guilty on count two, manslaughter, and sentenced to ten years and two years imprisonment after being found guilty on count three, misconduct," he said.

"The sentences are to run concurrently. The sentences are however, pending confirmation by the Naval Headquarters."

Omodara stated that the court martial was fair as Moses was given the opportunity to defend himself.

“The Court Martial was opened to members of the public, with several interest groups witnessing the procedure such as the media, office of the Public Defender and Lagos State Ministry of Justice. The accused was given the opportunity to defend himself and was represented by a lawyer from the Nigerian Navy and a civilian," the statement read.

Omodara further stated that the Naval authorities will not shield any erring officer, adding that the navy "has zero tolerance for indiscipline".

Despite the judgment, Joseph Otteh, the Executive Director of Access to Justice, stated that Glory, who had suffered physically and psychologically as a result of Moses' action deserved to be compensated.

"We need to ask what is in it for this young lady who had suffered so much. Apart from the judgment, there is no compensation for the mother of the child for all the pains she has gone through," he said.

"The naval authorities and the government should come to her aid. Glory has suffered too much. She has been warned to stay out of the case, but with our backing she stayed put despite the hardship she is facing. There is need to compensate her."

Dad shoots 10-year-old son dead in failed "bullet proof" charm test (Nigeria)

Dad is identified as ORNGUGA ADEGA. No mention of where the mother was when Dad was carrying out his "bullet proof" charm experiment.

Father Shoots Son Dead In Failed “Bullet Proof” Charm Test Gone Fatal
Posted by daniel in Home » Lifestyle, Nigerian News on September 2, 2012

I would have thought that if you get a charm that allegedly turns you into a living ‘bullet proof’ beign you’d test it first on yourself and nobody else. Well, Ornguga Adega, of Agbatse village in Kwande local government area of Benue state will be realizing that too late now.

In a bid to test the potency of his newly acquired bullet proof ‘juju’, Ornguga Adega had shot his only son dead while conducting a gunshot test on the boy. According to news reports, the alleged suspect was immediately arrested by men of the Benue State Police Command and is currently facing trial at a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court.

According to the First Information Report, FIR, by the police, the suspect and father of the ten- year- old had, in August 2012, bought some charm from a native doctor with the belief that it was potent enough to prevent the penetration of bullets into his body. He was said to have rubbed his ‘bullet proof’ cream on the body of his son in order to verify its efficacy and potency in line with the instructions of the native doctor from whom he bought the charm.

According to the FIR, Adega fired a shot with his single barrel gun on the right leg of his son which resulted in pellets from the bullet shattering the leg and also penetrating through to the left leg. The boy was said to have bled profusely but before his shocked and devastated father could get proper medical attention for him, the little boy bled to death.

When the case came up at the Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court, police prosecutor, Inspector Gabriel Egbonyi, said the accused was arrested at the process of investigating the cause of death of the young boy.

Egbonyi further told the court that the accused confessed to committing the crime and also acknowledged responsibility for the unfortunate incident which prompted further police investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction. However the prosecution said investigation was still in progress in the matter and asked for another date for hearing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dan Ogoh, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to 12 September.

The case is as clear as daylight but we will just have to let the law complete its cycle of justice. That man is not fit to be called a father and deserves the same punishment: he should be tied to a stake, the ‘bullet proof’ cream rubbed all over his body and then, hot lead pumped into his body, maybe it might just work this time around.

Custodial dad arrested for attempted incest with daughter (Sekondi, Ghana)

Notice that that dad EDWARD KENNETH BAIDOO is custodial, and that the daughter and her half sister lived with him. Just as we see in the west, there is no explanation as to why the girls live with molester daddy, or why the daughter he assaulted and attempted to rape is separated from her mother in Nigeria.

Custodial dad with history of domestic violence beats 5-year-old daughter to death for contacting her mom (Warri, Nigeria)

Most African cultures have held on to a tradition of honoring mothers--long after the West had abandoned such quaint notions in favor of Fathers Rights Uber Alles. But now we see the same sickness in Nigeria. Dad BECKLIN OKORO had a history of domestic violence (beating his wife). But he still had custody after the couple were separated. Is it really any surprise that a wife beater turned around and beat a child to death, for the "crime" of trying to see her mother? The authorities should have NEVER allowed this scum to pressure the mom into "giving" him custody. This was nothing but extortion.

http://naijagists.com/angry-father-flogs-five-year-old-daughter-to-death/

Feb 13, 2012 – Angry Father flogs five-year-old daughter to death

Anger has continued to trail the murder of five-year old Bethel Okoro, a kindergarten three pupil of Holy Cross Schools, Warri, Delta State.

Bethel was allegedly flogged to death by her 34-year-old father, Becklin Okoro, an ambulance driver with the state-owned Warri Central Hospital, on Friday.

Becklin was said to have been angered when he found out that Bethel, had visited her mother at 22, Numa Mejeyi Street, Iyara in Warri.

Our correspondent gathered that Becklin, who is currently on the run, had been separated from Bethel’s mother for sometime due to allegations that he was always beating his wife.

Bethel was said to have visited her mother’s apartment after closing from school instead of going home, a development that infuriated Becklin.

He allegedly flogged the helpless girl severally before she fainted and was rushed to the Warri Central Hospital, where she eventually died.

Becklin immediately took the corpse to the mortuary and ran away. He has yet to be apprehended since the incident took place.

The 25-year-old mother of the deceased, Esther Uremure, a hairdresser, told journalists that a cloud of darkness had enveloped her world since she lost her daughter and described her ex-husband’s action as wicked.

She said, “The father of my child killed her. He flogged her to death because she visited me in my place. On Friday, I was not at home but some youths in the area called me and informed me that my daughter was dead. I went to “A” Division Police Station to report the matter and they asked me to go to the Warri Central Hospital to confirm if it was true.

“When I got to the hospital, the mortuary attendant told me that my ex-husband denied flogging my child to death. Rather, he said it was his sister that flogged the girl to death and that when he got home, the child was already dead.”

The police authorities were said to have exonerated Becklin’s sister because there was no evidence to show that she was culpable.

She added, “So, since then, the police have been looking for him and they have not seen him. The corpse is still in the mortuary. Becklin said I was not taking good care of the children. After the death of my father, he said he never knew that I was an Itsekiri by tribe and vowed that an Itsekiri woman could never be his first wife.

“His family even intervened in the matter, but he refused. There was a time he beat me up in the presence of the two children I had for him. He comes here every day to make trouble, even on January 1, 2012, he beat me up, injured me on the face and broke my head. He comes to the salon to harass me.

“We signed an undertaking on January 4, 2012, that the children will be with him, but I have every right to visit them’’

Meanwhile, individuals and civil society groups in the state have condemned Becklin for allegedly flogging his daughter to death.

The Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence said the alleged murder was not only barbaric, but unacceptable.

The National Cordinator of the group, Mr. Ognenejabor Ikimi, in a statement in Warri on Saturday, said, ‘’We condemn the barbaric act and call on the police to spread their tentacles in a bid to apprehend and prosecute the fleeing suspect whom we believe is a dangerous bully that should be kept outside the purview of our society.”

Also, Dr.Veronica Ogbuagu, founder of the Every Child Counts Initiative for Education, said the beating of Bethel was the highest form of child abuse.

‘’Looking at the corpse of the girl, one would wonder if she fought with a lion. She was badly beaten. We are prepared to hire the services of a lawyer to prosecute the case. The police must go all out and fish out the suspect for him to face the music,’’ she said.

Ogbuagu, a former Commissioner for Education in the state, added that there was an urgent need for the government to monitor the prevalence of various forms of child abuse in the society.

The police spokesman in the state, Mr. Charles Muka, confirmed the incident, adding that the police were still on the trail of the suspect.

God have mercy!

May the soul of this innocent girl rest in peace. What a wicked world we live in.(culled from punch metro)

Custodial dad beats 5-year-old daughter to death for contacting "estranged" mother (Warri, Nigeria)

Though this story is from Nigeria, there are eerie parallels to similar cases in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and elsewhere. Why did dad BECKLIN SUNNY OKORO have custody of his 5-year-old daughter, especially when the mom reports that he has a history of child abuse (and probably domestic violence against the mother, though that's not discussed here)? No answer given, of course. Notice the abuser control-freak reaction to this poor little girl trying to seek out her mother: she's beaten to death. So very typical of the kind of violent father who insists on custody (full dictatorial control).

Wife calls for justice as hubby flogged child to death
A 34- year- old ambulance driver, Mr. Becklin Sunny Okoro, has allegedly flogged his five year- old- daughter to death in the oil-rich city of Warri.

By Ben Dunno, Warri

A 34- year- old ambulance driver, Mr. Becklin Sunny Okoro, has allegedly flogged his five year- old- daughter to death in the oil-rich city of Warri.

Though he is said to be on the run, a source close to the police in Warri, Delta State, told our correspondent that he can run, but cannot hide for too long as they must surely fish him out.

And the offence of the five year- old Bethel, according to investigation by our correspondent, was that the deceased dared her father by visiting her estranged mother at 22, Numa Mejeyi Street, Iyara in the oil-rich city.

Our findings also revealed that, Bethel, a KG 3 pupil of Holy Cross Schools, Warri on closing from school Thursday, January 26, 2012, instead of going home to her father, escaped to her mother’s place, but this was to cost the innocent child who longed to see her mother her life the next day.

It was further learnt that her father got infuriated that little Bethel did not come to him after school and when he eventually set his eyes on her, he boiled over with rage and taught her a deadly lesson.

Now, her lifeless body is in the mortuary.

The father of the deceased, it was gathered allegedly flogged her to a point of death and all efforts made by neighbours to rescue Bethel fell on deaf ears.

But somehow, Bethel, according to our source, was taken to the Warri Central Hospital half dead and on Friday, January 27, 2012, little Bethel took her last breath.

Her father, it was alleged, bundled her lifeless body and dumped it in the mortuary and disappeared. He has since not been seen.

At the mortuary on Tuesday, January 31, our correspondent noticed several marks of cane on the lifeless body of Bethel.

The Divisional Police Officer of the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Warri, CSP Austin Chukwuma, was not on seat when our correspondent checked on him over the incident on Tuesday, January 31.

But a reliable police source in the station confirmed the death of little Bethel in the hands of her own father.

The mother of the deceased, 25- year- old, Miss Esther Uremure, claimed on Tuesday that the father of her daughter flogged her to death and cried out for justice.

She said; ‘The father of my child killed her. He flogged her to death because she visited me in my place here (No. 22, Numa Mejeyi Street, Iyara, Warri) on Thursday, January 26 after she closed from school.

She visited me in the house and the father got angry because of that. But I was not even at home the day (Thursday, January 26,)’.

According to her, ‘I am crying for justice; he should be arrested and let him rot in jail.

I really want him behind bars because this is not the first time he has been doing this.

If he is not in jail, I will not know peace with my remaining child and I want him to be arrested and sent to the prison because he has caused me a lot’.
