Dad sentenced to 245 years for child sexual abuse (LeFlore County, Arkansas)

Dad is identified as JAMES HASKIN. Notice that Mom will probably also go to prison for "enabling"--a charge that is seldom levied against the partners of abusive women.

A LeFlore County jury found James Haskin, 62, of Monroe, guilty on multiple counts of child sexual abuse and neglect Friday.

He was sentenced to 245 years in prison, according to Margaret Nicholson, LeFlore County assistant district attorney.

Haskin will be formally sentenced on Feb. 22. He will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he can be eligible for parole.

Haskin is charged with nine counts of child neglect and three counts of sexual abuse toward his children. His trial began Monday.

His wife Lucinda entered a plea of “no contest” to nine counts of child neglect and three counts of enabling child sexual abuse and gave up her right to a trial on Jan. 4. She will also be sentenced on Feb. 22.

Nicholson said it will be up to the judge to determine her sentence.

The jury was made up of seven men and five women, Nicholson said.

The couple was arrested on Nov. 1, 2011, after one of their nine children told a case worker that she and another sibling had been sexually abused by Haskin.

One of the daughters claimed to have given birth to a stillborn child which Haskin delivered and buried on their 25-acre property. Authorities believed Haskin was the father of the baby, however no remains were ever found on the property.
