TBI arrests Gibson County father on child abuse charge

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested a Gibson County man accused of child abuse, according to a news release.

Samuel Mathew Edmiston, 35, of Samuel Street in Milan, was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse after authorities said he shook his 2-month-old son at their residence around New Year’s because the infant would not stop crying.

At approximately 6 a.m. Jan. 1, Levi Edmiston was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with what was described as seizure-like symptoms.

He was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center and diagnosed with a brain bleed.

TBI was asked to investigate the case after the Department of Children’s Services referred the incident of possible child abuse to the District Attorney General’s Office.

Edmiston was booked into the Gibson County Jail on $75,000 bond, the release said.
