(Memphis) A father is locked up for drinking and driving with his kids in the car.
Thirty year old Stephen Jones was arrested Wednesday night after he ran a stop sign at Kimbell and Prescott in Orange Mound.
Officers say he smelled of alcohol and had blood shot eyes.
Worst of all, there were three children between two and four strapped in the backseat.
“That’s not good. That’s not good. People don’t need to be driving with their kids in the car when they know they have been drinking,” said Patricia Woodall.
Patricia Woodall lives at the corner of Kimbell and Prescott.
She didn’t see Jones get arrested, but has seen some serious accidents at the busy intersection.
She says he got lucky and never should have put his kids in harm’s way.
“Anything can happen. Anything and right about now we don’t need kids dying like this,” said Woodall.
Police say Jones admitted to drinking beer before he got behind the wheel and had a blood alcohol content of .039.
Jones was also driving without a license.
It was suspended back in November.
Jones has been charged with child abuse and neglect.
The kids were turned over to their grandmother.
