CREST HILL — A man has been arrested for allegedly causing brain damage to his infant daughter.

Carl R. Blankenship, 29, was arrested Sunday on a charge of aggravated battery to a child and is being held in the county jail on $500,000 bond.

Deputy Chief Ed Clark said police officers and paramedics were called June 2 to a home in the 1400 block of Pioneer Road when a then-4-month-old girl was found unresponsive.

“An officer performed CPR and the child was hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators began reviewing medical records and determined the father was responsible for the abuse,” Clark said.

After reviewing the case with the Will County State’s Attorney’s office last week, police obtained a warrant and arrested Blankenship on Sunday night in the 1700 block of Larkin Avenue.

Reports said the child’s injuries will “require lifelong treatment for medical issues.”
