Police: dad knocked baby unconscious while assaulting baby's mom (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

I'm not surprised in the slightest that dad DANIEL HAYNES, who is charged with assaulting his infant daughter, also wanted to take the baby away from her mother. Typical violent dad mentality. Control uber alles--either through violence or possession.

PITTSBURGH -- A Hill District father is facing charges after police said his infant daughter was hurt during a domestic dispute.

According to Pittsburgh police, Daniel Haynes was arrested on Thursday and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said Haynes assaulted the mother of the child while holding a 2-month-old baby in one of his arms. During the course of the assault, police said Haynes struck the child's head against the front door of the house.

Police said the baby was unconscious when they arrived at the Manilla Street home. The child was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in critical condition but has since been upgraded to serious.

Officers said they had to chase Haynes down the street as they tried to take him into custody. Police said he denied having anything to do with his daughter's injuries.

When asked if he hurt the baby, Haynes told Channel 11 News, “No.”

Investigators originally received a call from a woman who said she was being assaulted. The woman reported that she and Haynes were fighting because he wanted to take the little girl away.
According to the criminal complaint, Haynes shoved the woman to a couch while holding the baby under his arm like a teddy bear. It also said he held the woman down by the throat before exiting the house with the baby in his arm.

Police said Haynes violently spun around while near a screen door and the infant's head struck it, causing the baby to go into a state of unconsciousness.

Investigators said Haynes doesn’t live with the victim and the baby, but there is no documented history of violence between them.

There was also a 12-year-old in the house at the time, police said. She had some injuries but did not require medical treatment, police said.
