Dad charged after Calgary baby slashed

The 32-year-old father of an 11-month-old baby boy who was slashed early Saturday has been charged in connection with the assault.
The Calgary Police Service child abuse unit charged the father with one count of attempted murder. His identity is being withheld to protect the identity of the child.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Meanwhile police said the baby is "stable and his condition is improving."
"He is expected to make a full recovery," a police statement said Sunday.
A 911 call at about 4 a.m. Saturday brought police to a home in the southeast suburb of Cranston where they found an "agitated" man and a baby boy, suffering from several serious slash wounds.
Neighbours awoke early Saturday to the sight of their suburban street filled with emergency vehicles.
"I never saw so many police cars in one spot," said Stu White, who was awakened by the sound of squealing tires shortly before ambulances and police cars lined the block.
"They took the baby out and put him out on a stretcher," White said. A man came out of the house shortly afterward "handcuffed. They read him his rights right there."
Police say they have since been in contact with the mother and determined she wasn't at home at the time of the incident.
"When officers arrived, an adult male and a ... child were at the scene and no other person was in the residence," said acting duty Insp. Bruce Walker.
