Father Arrested In Death Of 1-Year-Old Son

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The father of a 1-year-old boy who died in March faces a felony charge in connection to the child's death.

John Krenzel, 28, has been charged with the death of a child by parent. The Wheeling man told police last March that he was taking his twin boys upstairs to change their diapers when one son hit his head on the door frame. He told police that he did not think anything of the injury until the baby started foaming at the mouth.

The child was taken to the Ohio Valley Medical Center for a head injury and was later transported by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he died. A report by the medical examiner's office indicated that in their opinion, the boy died as a result of abusive closed head injury.

A magistrate arraigned Krenzel on the felony charge on Wednesday morning. Ohio County prosecutor Scott Smith said the penalties Krenzel could face range from 10 to 40 years in prison if convicted.
