9-year-old son killed in crash; dad arrested for DUII (Jordan Valley, Oregon)

Dad RIGOBERTO MARTINEZ-PEREZ has been cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII). Martinez-Perez's 9-year-old son was killed in the crash, and 5 others were injured.

JORDAN VALLEY – A single vehicle crash near Jordan Valley Saturday left one dead and five injured.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. a 2007 Nissan Frontier four-door pickup driven by Rigoberto Martinez-Perez, 33, of Nampa, was northbound on Highway 95 near milepost 12at a high rate of speed when it traveled off the right shoulder. The driver overcorrected, rolled several times off the opposite left shoulder and down a 40-foot embankment before coming to rest on its wheels at the bottom of a ravine. Six people were in the vehicle.

Rigoberto Martinez-Perez was reportedly transported to West Valley Hospital in Caldwell with non-life threatening injuries. Subsequent to the ongoing investigation, he was cited at the hospital by Oregon State Police for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Additional charges are pending through consultation with the Malheur County District Attorney's Office.

Martinez-Perez’s son, Gerado Martinez, 9, was seated in the right rear position and reportedly was pronounced deceased after arrival at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise.

The other four occupants were transported to St. Alphonsus Medical Center for treatment. Three of them suffered non-life threatening injuries and the fourth is in critical condition.

OSP is continuing the investigation. It is not yet known whether all occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The highway was intermittently closed over a five-hour period during the scene response and investigation.
