A Needham father is facing attempted murder charges after he was accused of assaulting his young daughter.

Alan Fuchs, 44, was arrested Monday at his Fairfield Street home after the child's mother called 911. Police said during her call, they could hear a man screaming in the background.

Fuchs was arraigned the following day on attempted murder and assault and battery charges.

The child, who is under 2 years old, was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital for evaluation.

Fuchs was sent to Bridgewater Hospital for a competency evaluation and is scheduled to return to court on May 13.
