Dad wanted in stabbing deaths of mom, 3-year-old daughter (Alexandria, Virginia)

Dad SIMON BAHTA ASHEHA is wanted in the stabbing death of his 3-year-old daughter ("who loved her daddy very much," or so we are assured), and his daughter's mother, with whom he had "a relationship." This item was found in the local police blotter, after an article on embezzlement at city hall. That's where domestic violence double murder ranks with the newspapers these days. No doubt an indication of how disgustingly common these crimes have become these days. They're barely reported in the U.S. anymore.

West End Murder

At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Alexandria police officers arrived at a West End high-rise apartment building in response to a call for a domestic incident. When they arrived, officers found the dead body of a mother and her 3-year-old child. The Alexandria Police Department later identified the woman as Seble Tessema, 27. An autopsy later revealed that she and her child had been stabbed to death.

Later that day, police officials identified a suspect in the suspicious deaths, 34-year-old Simon Bahta Asfeha. Police officials say Asfeha had a relationship with Tessema, and that he was the father of the child. The department says he is wanted for first-degree murder. Police say Asfeha may be driving a 1999 silver Acura with Virginia tags XKS-1522.

"She was real friendly, someone who smiled a lot," said an employee of the day-care facility on the ground floor of the high rise who did not want to give her name because she was not authorized by her employer to speak to the press. "It’s weird because the little girl loved her daddy very much."
