Update on father-daughter murder-suicide (Lake Lotawana, Missouri)
We recently reported on dad GEORGE MOREJON and his murder of his 12-year-old daughter in a murder-suicide. New information is basically confirming that this is a classic case of an abusive/controlling father. Morejon and the girl's mother were planning to separate at the end of the school year, and the parents lived in different parts of the house. All advocates for victims of domestic violence know that separating yourself from the abuser is the most dangerous time for victims, and this case provides yet additional, sickening proof of that.

Eastern Jackson County, MO — The shooting that left two people dead at a home on Milton Thompson Road in Lee’s Summit Wednesday has been ruled a murder/suicide.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said the death of Gabrielle Morejon, 12, was a homicide, and the death of her father, George Morejon, 58, was a suicide.
At 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call that reported two dead bodies in the 25000 block of Milton Thompson Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Gabrielle was found inside the home; the father was found in a car behind the home with a gun lying next to him.
The location is off Missouri 7 south of Blue Springs and west of Lake Lotawana.
Police said there are indications that the Morejons were living in the same house until the end of the school year for the sake of the children. Channel 4 reported that Gabrielle was a seventh-grader at St. John LaLande School in Blue Springs.
KMBC-TV reported that neighbor Wally Schlueter said he talked to George Morejon every couple of days.
He said he noticed Wednesday that the trash hadn’t been taken out and the man’s Subaru was behind the house.
“Something happened over at George’s house,” said Schlueter. “Not two seconds later police cars from all directions came, converged on the place.”
Investigators said that Morejon had been staying in in-laws’ quarters in the home’s basement. His wife and their two children lived upstairs.
Police said the couple’s 15-year-old son, who is autistic, was found wandering outside their home late Wednesday. He was not injured.
“It’s a sad world where a child is killed like this,” Schlueter told KMBC.
