Dad with "anger-management issues" accused of "slamming" 2-year-old son; boy's leg broken (Sheboygan, Wisconsin)

Yup, typical. Mom was at work, and Dad WILLIAM L. WIRTJES was doing caretaking duties. Of course, it turns out that Dad doesn't have the patience to deal with a two-year-old, especially a toddler with disabilities. Add to this mix that Dad is on medication for "anger-management issues"--well, let's just say this child is lucky that he only got "slammed." A broken leg is serious business, but at least this @$$wipe of a father didn't kill him.

Sheboygan Father Accused of Breaking Toddler's Leg

A 37-year-old Sheboygan man is accused of "slamming" his two-year-old son on to the floor, breaking the boy's leg.

William L. Wirtjes faces a preliminary hearing Tuesday on a felony count of child abuse. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Prosecutors say the boy is a special-needs child who can't speak and has significant weakness on his right side.

The injury occurred Monday around 11 A.M., while the boy's mother was at work.

Authorities say Wirtjes initially said the boy fell off a stool, but later said he lost his temper because the boy wouldn't sit still.

The Sheboygan Press says Wirtjes told investigators he takes medication for anger-management issues. Defense attorney Roberta Heckes declined to comment.
