Father pleads guilty in child's injuries
Nevada Appeal Staff Report
A Carson City father pleaded guilty this week to abusing his infant son in April.
Danny Maxfield Jr., 32, entered the plea to felony child abuse Tuesday before Carson City District Judge Jim Wilson.
He was arrested in April after taking his 9-week-old son to the emergency room after the infant coughed up blood, court documents indicate.
Doctors noted fractures to the baby's arm, leg, ribs and two separate areas of bleeding in the child's brain, reports state. The fractures were allegedly in varying stages of healing indicating they'd happened at separate times.
According to police reports, Maxfield initially denied harming the infant. But in an interview with a detective, he admitted to lifting the baby by his arm and, in another instance, holding onto the infant tightly while fighting with the baby's mother.
Maxfield faces one to six years in prison when sentenced Feb. 9.
