CALGARY - A Calgary father has been sentenced to 41/2 years in prison for sexually abusing his two young daughters.

Crown prosecutor Paul Mason told the judge it was a "particularly vile offence."

Court heard the girls' biological mother reported the dad to police in February after receiving information from the girls, who were 12 and 13.

They told police about the various sex acts performed on them by their father.

The oldest girl said her father had sexually assaulted her on four occasions between Dec. 1, 2008, and Jan. 31 of this year. The youngest victim said he had touched her inappropriately on two occasions.

The father confessed to all the incidents.

He must be registered as a sex offender for 20 years, provide a DNA sample and not visit any park, playground or other location where young children generally gather.

The man also consented to seizure of three handguns and two crossbows.

Publication of his name is banned to protect the identity of the victims.
