Dad stabs mom to death, infant son in critical condition (Chicago, Illinois)

UNNAMED DAD has been arrested in the stabbing death of Tanisha Edwards, the mother of their infant son. The baby was also wounded in the attack, and is in critical condition.

A mother who was stabbed during an domestic incident Monday night has died and her infant son who was also stabbed in the attack remains in critical condition early Tuesday on the South Side, police said.

Tanisha Edwards suffered multiple stab wounds on the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue Monday evening, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Edwards was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where she was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m.

The baby’s father has been arrested for the stabbing but had not been charged with anything as of early Tuesday.

The incident happened about 6:15 p.m. on the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. During the course of the altercation, Mirabelli said, the infant's father stabbed the baby and the child's mother.

The woman was 18 years old, according to police.

The infant was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where he remains in critical condition early Tuesday, according to police.

The baby's mother and father are not believed to be married, Mirabelli said.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
