A Southwest Side man who police say critically injured his infant son is charged with felony aggravated battery to a child.

Matthew Candler, 23, of the 7200 block of South Spaulding was charged yesterday, according to a police department news release.

Candler allegedly shook the 3-month-old baby violently sometime between November 22nd and 23rd. The baby's mother took the infant to the hospital on the 23rd when she noticed he was struggling to breath.

Doctors determined the baby had multiple internal injuries indicative of abuse.
