Dad takes 8-year-old on high speed chase to avoid police (Omaha, Nebraska)

Sounds like UNNAMED DAD needs to stop watching those reruns of "2 Fast 2 Furious." He must be one of those guys who thinks he's the star of an action movie. 'Cause he sure isn't a responsible parent to an 8-year-old child--note that he was going DOUBLE the highway speed limit with the child in the car. Dad has been arrested for felony child abuse, flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension, and willfull reckless driving.

A Heartland man is suspected of felony child abuse after he eludes Omaha Police during a high speed chase. The suspect is in custody in Pottawattamie County after authorities there stopped his car.

Inside that car, authorities say, was the eight year old daughter of the suspect.

According to the police report, officers tried to pull the suspect's vehicle over in the area of 42nd and Fontenelle Boulevard just after 11pm on Wednesday, July 15th.

The plates on the vehicle did not match the make and model.

Omaha officers say the driver sped up, at times doubling the speed limit on Highway 75. He then crossed over into Iowa on Interstate 480.

The report indicates authorities caught up with the vehicle and stopped the suspect. The 33-year old father has been placed in protective custody in Pottawattamie County. The report does not indicate what happened to the eight year old girl in the vehicle at the time of the chase.

The girl's father is listed as the suspect for a number of crimes including, felony child abuse, flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension and willful reckless driving.
