Delaware Dad Who Fled With Daughters to Nicaragua Charged With Kidnapping
Saturday, July 18, 2009

WILMINGTON, Del. — Federal prosecutors say a Delaware father accused of obtaining a fraudulent $250,000 loan and fleeing to Nicaragua with his three daughters is now charged with parental kidnapping.

Police took David Matusiewicz into custody near Managua, Nicaragua, in March, and he was indicted in Delaware on charges he forged his ex-wife's signature on a home-equity loan.

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted Matusiewicz on charges of parental kidnapping and engaging in an illegal financial transaction.

Prosecutors say the transaction charge stems from the alleged transfer of the $249,000 loan to another account.

Authorities say the 42-year-old Middletown man fled the country in August 2007 with his mother and daughters.
