(07-08) 07:09 PDT SANTA ROSA -- A father and son have been arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank in Santa Rosa, police said Wednesday.

Michael Fuesz, 64, drove the getaway car after his son, Jason Fuesz, 40, robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Oakmont Drive on Tuesday, said Santa Rosa police Sgt. Lisa Banayat.

"It is rare to have a father-son bank-robbery team," Banayat said.

The incident began about 3:35 p.m., when police received reports of a robbery alarm. Someone from the bank called 911, and dispatchers heard what sounded like a robbery in progress.

Police determined that a man wearing a mask and gloves demanded cash from a teller and got into a truck waiting outside. A witness later said the suspect got out of the truck on the 6300 block of Highway 12 and began walking away.

An officer saw the truck heading west on the highway and arrested Michael Fuesz. A pellet gun and clothing similar to that used in the robbery were found in the truck, Banayat said.

The Santa Rosa police SWAT team, a K-9 unit and a Sonoma County sheriff's light armored vehicle surrounded a nearby home after a witness reported seeing a second suspect there. A California Highway Patrol plane also responded to assist.

Jason Fuesz was found hiding in some bushes on the property about 7:20 p.m., Banayat said. He had money taken from the bank in his possession, police said.

Father and son, both Santa Rosa residents, were booked at Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and conspiracy.
