Father arrested in Alliance newborn's death

An Alliance man has been arrested in the death of his newborn child.

Police were called to Alliance Community Hospital at about noon Wednesday after hospital personnel reported 1-month-old Mia Pastore had been taken there with visible and nonvisible injuries.

Harry Campbell, chief investigator for the Stark County Coroner's Office, was called to the hospital and pronounced the child dead, said Alliance police Lt. John Jenkins.

Authorities ruled the death a homicide.

Police took the child's father, Mariano Pastore, 31, into custody at his home in the 500 block of South Arch Avenue at about 1 p.m., Jenkins said.

Pastore was charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.

He will be arraigned at 1 p.m. Friday in Alliance Municipal Court.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges might be filed.
