(KXAN) - Father charged with injury to his child

The father of a 6-month-old boy has been charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony. Christopher Dion Williams, 21, is believed to have caused serious injuries to his child, including skull fractures.

Austin police received a call on May 16 from the Dell Children's Medical Center to report the condition of a 6-month-old male child, checked in by his mother. After a brief inspection of the child, he had swelling and bruising to his face along with a burn on the bottom of his right foot. The mother of the boy said she arrived at home and found him in that condition. During that time, the child was under the care of Williams.

Police interviewed the child's mother, father along with Williams' mother and brother.

Throughout the course of the interviews, Williams attempted to deny any responsibility for the child's injuries.

Others interviewed said they saw the boy in a healthy condition prior to Williams caring for him.

The suspect eventually confirmed that the boy was injured under his care, claiming that while dressing the boy, he hit his head on the closet causing Williams to drop him. He also claimed while bathing him, the bath water was too hot, which allegedly caused the burn on his foot.

After further tests, hospital staff confirmed that child had serious bodily injury. The child had skull fractures of both the frontal and parietal bones of his skull, overlying scalp swelling and a burn to his right foot that required plastic surgery. The injuries have led officials to believe Williams intentionally and knowingly caused the injuries to his 6-month-old child.
