A Lafayette man accused of killing his infant son last year pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to charges of first-degree murder and child abuse.

A trial date has been set for Sept. 17 for Benjamin Koller, 26, by Boulder District Judge Maria Berkenkotter.

It's still possible Koller will agree to a plea deal with prosecutors. Nicole Collins, Koller's attorney, said Koller is reviewing a plea offer.

Investigators say Koller took the baby to the hospital in July and the child was in and out of the hospital until his death.

A Lafayette police detective testified that Koller admitted that he had sometimes become frustrated with his son because he wouldn't stop crying. The detective said Koller told him he had sometimes covered the baby's nose and mouth to get him to stop crying and that he once dropped him onto a changing table.
