AVENTURA, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said the suspect responsible for killing a 10-year-old boy was the boy's father, who would later die of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
According to Aventura Police, Erasmo Reina Moreno, 72, is responsible for the shooting death of his son. Moreno is the ex-boyfriend of the victim's mother. He was also the homeowner of the house where the shooting took place.
Thursday afternoon, the mother of the 10-year-old boy came home, only to find him dead. Police said Moreno shot the boy sometime between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. inside the Aventura Lakes home at 211th Street and Northeast 31st Avenue.
Aventura Police said Moreno was the suspect all along, and at this point, he remains the only suspect. Friday morning, police found Moreno shot dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police discovered Moreno's body inside a vehicle in the parking lot behind the Sunny Isles Beach Public Library. "Our recovery units were working several different leads last night, as well as looking into several different motels in hopes of finding the suspect and indeed it proved to be a positive move, as it did locate the vehicle," Aventura Police detective Chris Goranitis said.
Police released alleged domestic violence documents which occurred in the past between Moreno and the victim's mother. According to a police report from August 2009, Moreno took out a dumbbell and threatened to hit his ex-girlfriend with the dumbbell and then struck her with it. At the time, she was eight months pregnant.
