Dad charged with 1st-degree assault for abuse of 6-week-old infant son (Anne Arundel County, Maryland)
Dad THOMAS VIRTS has been arrested and charged with 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, and child abuse of his 6-week-old son. The baby has a traumatic head injury, and is in critical condition.

Detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Department have arrested and charged Thomas Virts with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, and Child Abuse of his six-week-old infant son.
Police first became involved after receiving a call that Virts’ son had been admitted to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center with trauma to his head.
The infant was eventually transported by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. in critical condition where he remains.
Homicide detectives interviewed hospital employees and decided to classify the injuries as child abuse. Charges were filed against Thomas Virts, 25, of Glen Burnie and police began trying to locate him.
Anne Arundel County Detectives were able to locate Virts in the parking lot of Belle Grove Elementary School in Brooklyn Park and took him in to custody.
