DAD ACCUSED OF ABUSE
A one-month-old infant is in hospital and her father behind bars after police investigated an allegation of child abuse in Niagara Falls.
Niagara Regional Police said the infant's mother took the baby to a local hospital Tuesday.
"She was concerned about bruising on the baby's body," said Const. Nilan Dave.
After examining the infant, medical staff contacted Family and Children's Services Niagara. The NRP child abuse unit was also notified.
An investigation led to the arrest of the child's father, who lives with the mother and their child in Niagara Falls.
Police would not say if the couple have any other children in the home, or where the incident is said to have taken place.
The name of the suspect, a 24-year-old man, is not being released to protect the identity of the child.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing in St. Catharines.
