Dad charged with beating 2-year-old to death (Racine, Wisconsin)

Dad MANUEL GARCIA has been charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide in the beating death of his 2-year-old son. The little boy died from blunt force trauma.

Father of battered child charged with homicide

A Racine man has been arrested for allegedly beating his 2-year-old to death.

A couple brought their 26-month-old son to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary's Hospital around 12:30 Friday morning. The child was unconscious at the time.

Emergency Room personnel were unable to revive the child and he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30am.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Police arrested 40-year-old Manuel Garcia for 1st degree reckless homicide. They also arrested the boy's mother, 24-year-old Lawanda Martinez, for drug possession.

Racine County Human Services responded to the couple's home and took custody of Martinez' other 3 children.
