A-24-YEAR-OLD man of Couva has gone on trial in the San Fernando Criminal Assize Court for the 2004 murder of his two-and-half-year old step daughter in 2004.
Anton Hinsley Bruce, of Paradise Avenue, is before Justice Malcolm Holdip and a 12- member jury for the murder of Kameena Roberts whom it is alleged he beat to death on April 4.
Bruce was arraigned and the charge read to him that on that day he murdered the child. The jury, however, is yet to hear evidence in the case as Holdip informed them that certain legal issues have to be dealt with among himself, Senior State Attorney Angelica Teelucksingh and attorney who is defending Bruce, Carol Foderingham instructed by Jason Jackson.
The judge estimated that the legal issues would be thrashed out by tomorrow and has requested the jury to return for further directions.
