A 40-year-old man has been charged with murdering his three-month-old son and abusing the baby's twin sister.
Scotland Yard has not released the man's name, but has confirmed he is from Erith in south east London, and said was due to appear at Bexley Magistrates' Court.
The father has also been charged with grievous bodily harm in relation to attacks on the baby girl.
He was arrested after the baby boy was taken to a south London hospital with a serious head injury in October last year. The child, from Bexley, south east London, died the following day at King's College Hospital.
Subsequent police inquiries found the baby's twin sister was recovering from injuries believed to be the result of physical abuse.
The man's 37-year-old wife was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and allowing or causing the death of a child, but has since been released without charge.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A 40-year old man from Erith has today been charged with the murder of a three-month-old boy who died in King's College Hospital on Saturday October 25, 2008.
"The man has also been charged with grievous bodily harm towards both the deceased and his twin sister on Friday October 24, 2008.
"A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a head injury. The man is due to appear at Bexley Magistrates' Court."
