Jaipur/ Bikaner: The six-month-old girl from Bikaner, Radha, whose father had chewed off her nose and lips in a fit of rage, died at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur where she was undergoing treatment for a week now. Doctors said the baby died of respiratory complications after her lungs were choked with milk fed to her on Wednesday morning.

On the night of January 26, the Radha’s father Bahadur Singh had attacked her and her elder sister Bhanwari in a fit of rage after a verbal spat with his wife. He had beaten his elder daughter while chewing off Radha’s lips and face who died at the SMS Hospital on Wednesday.

On February 1, the baby successfully underwent two major face reconstruction surgeries and was kept in the intensive care unit as a precautionary measure. Bahadur Singh can now be charged with murder, police said.

Official spokesperson of SMS Hospital Dr Rajesh Sharma said, “The baby died due to respiratory complications.” At around 7:30 am the baby was fed bottled milk by her mother, hospital sources said. The milk accidentally entered the child’s lungs and she lost consciousness soon after due to “aspiration pneumonitis (Inflammation of the lungs and bronchial tubes from breathing in foreign material, usually food, liquids, or fluids from mouth are breathed into the lungs or airways leading to the lungs).

A team of doctors immediately put the child on a ventilator after she was found unconscious. “But the milk spread into her lungs and she could not be saved,” Sharma said.

Radha’s maternal grandfather Hanuman Singh said that the child’s father should be brought to justice.
