Babysitting dad charged with felony battering in abuse of 5-month-old son; baby has brain trauma and bleeding (Lakemoor, Illinois)

Dad TRAVIS MYERS has been arrested with felony child battery for abusing his 5-month-old son. Daddy was babysitting while the mother was at school. Seems Dad probably got "frustrated" at some point and violently shook the baby resulting in brain trauma, retinal bleeding, and fractures. The poor baby is on a feeding tube.

News-Sun Staff Report
A 5-month-old boy is being treated for brain trauma, detached retinas, a fractured left clavicle and a fractured left wrist allegedly caused by his father.

The infant also experienced brain and retinal bleeding, and continues to be on a feeding tube, according to Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Matt DeMartini.

Travis Myers, 20, of Lakemoor is charged with child battery, a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Myers is accused of shaking his son when the baby was 2 months old while the 17-year-old mother was in school, DeMartini said.

Myers was in court Thursday for a pretrial hearing. Authorities are still waiting for the infant's medical records. A police officer briefed DeMartini on the baby's condition.

Myers is due back in court April 5. His trial is scheduled for May 3.
