Dad with history of DV assaults 3-year-old son during weekend custody/visitation (Jackson County, Mississippi)

The names sounded vaguely familiar so I looked them up to see if we had posted on them before. Sure enough, dad NATHAN BLAKE MCCRORY has a history of domestic violence and had weekend custody/visitation. Of course, the media "forgot" to tell you about it this time....

See here.

Jackson County father accused of child abuse

3-year-old’s wounds include suspected cigarette burns, bleeding on brain
UPDATED 2:30 PM CDT May 10, 2016

PASCAGOULA, Miss. —A detective testified 3-year-old Zander Saucier had at least 30 wounds to his body, including suspected cigarette and lighter burns and bleeding on the brain, when he was brought to Singing River Hospital last month.

The Sun Herald reported that the boy's father, Nathan Blake McCrory, 24, is accused of causing the injuries to his son. McCrory was in Jackson County Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing on felony charges of child abuse and one count of marijuana cultivation.

Judge T. Larry Wilson determined there was enough evidence in the case to be bound over to a grand jury for indictment.

Detective Eddie Clark testified at the hearing and talked about some of the other injuries Zander suffered.

McCrory claims the boy suffered the injuries by falling down the stairs.

Custodial dad suspected in murder-suicide involving 10-month-old baby (D'Iberville, Mississippi)

Though the article below doesn't make it clear, this one does clarify that UNNAMED DAD was in fact custodial, that the baby lived with dad and the grandparents. Not one of the articles I have seen on this apparent murder-suicide explain what happened to the mom, how an emotionally unstable father got custody, or who gave him custody.

Police: Child found dead, father dead in apparent suicide

Published: Wednesday, May 4th 2016, 4:28 pm

EDT D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - An investigation is underway in D’Iberville involving a dead 10-month-old and a father who apparently hung himself from an apartment stairwell.

Police Chief Wayne Payne said police and medical crews were called to the Landmark Apartments on Lamey Bridge Rd. around 4:10 a.m. Wednesday. Payne said first responders found the child dead on the floor of an apartment.

According to police, the child’s grandfather woke up his son around 4 a.m. to tell him the 10-month-old was unresponsive. Payne said the grandfather found the child on the floor and called 911.

According to the grandfather, his son hysterically ran out of the apartment while they were waiting for police to arrive.

Payne said police searched for the father and found him hanging from the stairwell of an adjacent apartment building a short time later.

The man was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Anytime an infant child like that dies, it's tragic. It is a tragic event and we hate to see things like this, said D’Iberville Police Department Capt. Marty Griffin. "We’re working, looking to find the answers and the reason why.”

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove expects to perform an autopsy Thursday to determine a cause of death. He said right now, this is being treated as a homicide investigation.

Mom: Custodial dad could have been stopped from murdering 5 kids (Columbia, South Carolina)

We've reported on this case before. Though so many of these cases are just insanely horrible, this one is particularly so. Dad is identified as TIMOTHY RAY JONES JR.

Notice, however, that there is no explanation as to who gave this crazy piece of sh** custody to begin with.

Mother of 5 Slain Kids: SC Agency Could Have Stopped Deaths

By meg kinnard, associated press

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Apr 26, 2016, 4:38 PM ET 

The mother of five South Carolina children who police say were killed by their father in 2014 says the state's social services agency knew the father was a threat and did nothing to stop him.

The allegations are part of a lawsuit filed last week by Amber Jones accusing the Department of Social Services of wrongful death and infliction of pain and suffering.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against her ex-husband. Authorities say Timothy Ray Jones Jr. killed his five children — ages 8, 7, 6, 2 and 1 — at their Lexington County home in 2014 and drove around with their bodies in trash bags for nine days before dumping them in an Alabama field.

Jones was arrested in Mississippi after a deputy said he smelled the stench of death coming from the SUV at a traffic checkpoint.

A Social Services spokeswoman declined to comment on the lawsuit, which gives a detailed chronology of Jones' criminal past, including 2001 convictions for drug possession and forgery. It also notes his 2004 marriage to Amber Jones and the subsequent births of their five children.

By 2011, the family lived in Batesburg-Leesville, where, according to the lawsuit, Social Services received a report of child abuse and neglect, piles of trash at the home as well as a report Jones had threatened to shoot a neighbor's dog.

Caseworkers came to the family's home multiple more times that year, even calling law enforcement after Jones became violent and accused a caseworker of "ruining people's lives." But, according to the suit, no action was ever taken to discipline Jones or remove the children.

The complaint documents multiple additional instances in which Jones threatened the children's mother, who in 2012 made a criminal domestic violence complaint against him. The couple ultimately had a fifth child and then divorced in 2013, with Jones being awarded primary custody.

Over the next year, according to the lawsuit, teachers reported abuse claims to local Social Services workers after seeing bruises on three of the five children. A baby-sitter made similar claims. In August 2014, the agency contacted law enforcement, saying Jones didn't want to return his children to public school "because he feared the school would report the beatings."

Three weeks later, Jones picked up all five children from school and day care and killed them at the family home, authorities have said. Four children were strangled, and one was beaten to death.

Many of the claims mirror information in case files previously released by the Department of Social Services. Authorities never found anything serious enough to take the children away, but the documents show Jones as a single father and computer engineer struggling to raise his children.

"Dad appears to be overwhelmed as he is unable to maintain the home, but the children appear to be clean, groomed and appropriately dressed," a case worker wrote Aug. 13, two weeks before the children's disappearance.

Defense attorneys have suggested Jones suffered from mental problems, and an arrest warrant said he feared his children were going to kill him, chop him up and feed him to dogs. A judge in December ordered a psychiatric evaluation, and no trial date has been set.

Dad arrested for abusing 3-year-old son during visitation has extensive history of domestic violence (Jackson County, Mississippi)

A father with this history of domestic violence never should have been allowed any access or visitation with a child. Not clarified here if it was the boy's mother that was repeatedly assaulted, but it seem likely. And of course, still no clarification as to whether visitation was court-ordered (or whether Daddy merely bullied the mother). And if court-ordered, by whom.

Dad is identifieid as NATHAN BLAKE MCCRORY.

Father accused in child abuse case arrested in other domestic-related incidents

Nathan Blake McCrory, 24, is charged with child abuse and manufacturing a controlled substance.

By MARGARET BAKER

JACKSON COUNTY -- A 3-year-old child who suffered critical injuries allegedly at the hands of his father is starting to show signs of improvement, according to a family member.

Zander Saucier was taken by ambulance to Singing River Hospital on Sunday and airlifted a day later to USA Women's and Children's Hospital for further treatment. His father, Nathan Blake McCrory, 24, is being held in the Jackson County jail on felony charges of child abuse and marijuana cultivation in the case.

"Zander has opened both eyes," a family member posted on Facebook, adding that the boy had also given a high-five at the doctor's request.

"I asked the doc when he'd be able to tell us what to expect and he shrugged and said now," the relative said. The doctor told the family he expected to the boy to be "just fine" based on his latest movements.

McCrory is due in court at 2 p.m. Wednesday for an initial appearance in his criminal case.

At that time, County Court Judge T. Larry Wilson is expected to set McCrory's bond and read the formal charges against him.

The criminal investigation

Jackson County sheriff's investigators began a criminal probe after Singing River Hospital officials called to report that the boy's injuries were inconsistent with a fall. McCrory had brought his unresponsive son to his grandmother Sunday and said the boy had fallen down the stairs at McCrory's home on Rayford Shumoch Road.

McCrory did not go to the hospital to check on his son, Ezell said.

Sheriff's deputies arrested McCrory on Monday on criminal charges in the case.

McCrory was arrested on the additional drug charge after deputies found what they believed to be marijuana growing in the home.

The sheriff described the boy's injuries as "real bad" and said he had bruising all over his body.

McCrory accused in other assaults

McCrory's arrest Monday was not a first for him.

On April 29, 2013, Ezell said, sheriff's deputies arrested McCrory on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence by simple assault and malicious mischief. In that case, he said, another ex-girlfriend of McCrory's reported he had assaulted her and damaged her vehicle, which included breaking out a window.

In 2011, Ezell said, the same woman called to report she suspected McCrory had caused damage to her vehicle, but she did not pursue charges in the case.

In another incident on Nov. 29, 2014, in Okaloosa County, Fla., sheriff's deputies arrested McCrory on two counts of first-degree battery by domestic violence, both misdemeanor offenses.

According to the affidavit filed in that case, the same ex-girlfriend told authorities she was sitting in the backseat of a Toyota Tundra headed east on Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach when she and McCrory got into an argument.

During the argument, the affidavit said, McCrory "grabbed (the woman) by the hair and started pulling it..."

The truck's driver stopped the truck, the report said, got out and went around to the backseat to try to break up the fight.

McCrory, the report said, started hitting the driver while the girlfriend tried grabbing McCrory by the neck to pull him off the man trying to intervene.

The driver then got back in the truck and started to drive off, the report said, when McCrory reached from the backseat and started hitting the driver again.

The driver later told authorities he intervened after he heard McCrory's girlfriend shout, "Blake don't hit me."

The driver also told authorities that when he reached in the backseat, McCrory started hitting him and even "choked him."

The driver admitted striking McCrory as well to stop the fighting.

McCrory's mother was a witness

McCrory's mother, the report said, confirmed McCrory and his then girlfriend got into a fight in the back seat and her son struck the driver "several times" when he tried to stop the fighting.

McCrory, the affidavit said, claimed he struck the driver as a way of "defending himself."

Okaloosa County investigators also noted McCrory appeared to be impaired at the time of his arrest because his eyes were bloodshot and he wreaked of alcohol.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the child abuse allegations against McCrory is continuing.

To report information, call Jackson County sheriff's Investigator Eddie Clark at 872-7997.

3-year-old critical; dad arrested on abuse charge in Jackson County

By MARGARET BAKER 

JACKSON COUNTY -- A 3-year-old boy is in a Mobile hospital with critical wounds caused by his father, authorities said.

Nathan Blake McCrory, 24, is being held without bond at the Jackson County jail on charges of felony child abuse and manufacturing a controlled substance. He was taken into custody Monday.

Zander Saucier was taken to Singing River Hospital on Sunday because of a reported fall. The staff felt the injuries were inconsistent with a fall and reported their suspicions to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said McCrory, who is not Zander's custodial parent but had him over the weekend, took him to his own mother and told her her grandson had fallen down the stairs at his home on Rayford Shumoch Road in the East Central community.

McCrory's mother called 911 and Acadian Ambulance took Zander to the hospital. McCrory did not go to the hospital to check on his son, Ezell said.

Singing River did initial treatment, then had the boy airlifted to USA Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, where he is in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Ezell said Zander had additional bruising on areas of his body, which were consistent with abuse. Ezell said the boy's injuries are "serious."

"It's bad," he said. "It's real bad."

A prayer vigil for Zander is planned for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nugent United Methodist Church, at John Clark Road and Old Hwy. 49 in Gulfport.

McCrory was also arrested on the felony drug charge, the sheriff said, after deputies found he was cultivating marijuana.

An initial court appearance has not been set.

Prosecutors seek death penalty for custodial dad who killed five children (Lexington County, South Carolina)

We've reported on custodial dad TIM JONES JR. before. Also check out this post.  He had full legal and primary custody despite numerous complaints to CPS that he was beating and starving the kids. Daddy also had a criminal record and drug issues. So far, have not seen the name of the judge who delivered these poor kids to this monster.

SC seeks death penalty for father who killed, dumped 5 kids’ bodies in AL

Posted: Dec 09, 2015 4:59 PM EST Updated: Dec 10, 2015 4:32 PM EST

By Jeremy Turnage

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The death penalty will be sought against the Lexington County father of five accused of killing his children, then dumping their bodies in Alabama.

Tim Jones, Jr., 33, appeared in court on Wednesday where Solicitor Donnie Myers served notice of his intentions to seek the death penalty.

Jones was arrested in September 2014 after he was picked up in Mississippi after going through a motor vehicle public safety checkpoint.

Jones was detained and questioned about the whereabouts of his five children, who were reported missing after the oldest ones did not show up at school and the children's mother, Amber, couldn't reach them.

Jones later told authorities that he dumped their bodies in garbage bags in a rural area off Highway 10 near Camden, Ala. Investigators say the children were killed in Lexington County between or on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, and then their bodies taken to the dump site in Alabama.

A Grand Jury indicted Jones on five counts of murder in the deaths of his children – Mera, 8; Elias, 7; Nahtahn, 6; Gabriel, 2; and Abigail, 1. For Mera, Elias, Gabriel and Abigail, the indictments state the children were killed “by means of strangulation and/or other violent means or instruments” in Lexington County.

However, the indictment in Nahtahn's death says that he was killed by Jones “hitting or striking” him “by causing physical exhaustion, by mortally injuring or causing injuries” to the child “by means or instruments unknown and/or by unknown means of a wanton or reckless disregard for human life.”

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS August 13, 2015 - 6:37 am EDT

HERNANDO, Mississippi — A Horn Lake woman has been sentenced to life sentence in prison for the death of her abused 11-year-old stepson.

Prosecutors say that Justin T. Raines was tied up, starved and beaten by his father and stepmother. Authorities say the boy weighed 56 pounds when he was found dead by police in the bathroom of the family's rental home on Feb. 6, 2014.

The boy's father has not yet been sentenced.

Dad charged with 2nd-degree murder in fire-related death of 7-year-old daughter (Baldwyn, Mississippi)

Interesting choice of wording here. A "woman" (not the man's wife?) escaped with "her" children. So was she the mother of the 7-year-old? Was dad DAVID FLOYD not the father of the escaped children? Just the 7-year-old girl?

Another one of those cases where the mainstream media chooses to be vague about the family formation.

BALDWYN, Miss. (AP) - A Baldwyn man has been charged with second-degree murder in the fire-related death of his 7-year-old daughter.

Multiple news outlets report 28-year-old David Floyd was arrested Monday. Authorities say emergency crews responded to a blaze last Tuesday morning and found Floyd's daughter, Savannah, in a bedroom suffering extensive burns. She was taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital, where she died Monday morning.

A 26-year-old woman was able to escape with her two children, an 18-month-old girl and a 2-month-old boy.

Investigators with the Lee County Sheriff's Department believe Floyd was responsible for the blaze.

The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating and says more charges could be filed.

An autopsy will be conducted on Savannah's body Tuesday.

It is unclear if Floyd has a lawyer.

Custodial dad indicted on capital murder charges in death of 23-month-old daughter; had stripped mom of custody just one month before (Waveland, Mississippi)

Dad is identified as OREN LEWIS. The mother is reportedly a "former girlfriend." Former at the time of the little girl's death? If so, that would suggest this was a custody/visitation situation. But as we so typically see, Dad's custody status is not explained.

Background information  HERE. According to this article from December 2013, Daddy had been custodial for one month:

Police said Lewis told them he was home alone with his four children on the night of August 25, 2013, when Maleah feel from her bed causing the injuries that led to her death.

"We don't believe that's what happened. We don't believe it could have happened that way," said the chief.

Family members said Lewis was awarded custody of the little girl a little more than a month before the tragedy.

Also this:

Rita Bush is Maleah's mother. She and Lewis were not married, and custody of the child ended up in court. Bush said she's been waiting all these months for answers.

This is typical of the way the media gradually "forgets" the custodial father's status, thereby giving those in power who granted him custody a free pass. No accountability here, folks! Move right along.

NOW ON THE KILLER DADS AND CUSTODY list for Mississippi.

Dad wanted on capital murder charges in death of 17-month-old daughter turns himself in (Jackson, Mississippi)

Notice the vagueness which is typical in this kind of news article. The child was "with her father" when the "incident occurred." Does this mean she was killed in a custody/visitation situation? There is no way of knowing. This one reason why it is so hard to quantify the number of children harmed in custody/visitation situations.

Dad is identified as RICKY DAVIS.

Father sentenced to 15 years in infant son's death

The Associated Press April 18, 2015

VICKSBURG, Miss. — A Vicksburg father has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the shaking death of his infant son.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick sentenced 25-year-old Jamaro South during a hearing on Thursday. The Vicksburg Post reports (http://bit.ly/1cHWHs2 ) that the victim was 6-month-old Jamaro Carter Jr., who died in 2013.

South pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder. State law requires that a sentence of at least 20 years be given for second-degree murder, but also allows a judge to suspend a portion of the sentence.

Patrick told South during the hearing that he does not believe South intended to kill the child.

South made no statements during the hearing.

Defense Attorney Chris Green asked Patrick to consider the death as manslaughter rather than a murder while considering sentencing. "We think the facts of this crime fit the constraints of manslaughter, but it also fits the confines of second-degree murder," Green said.

District Attorney Ricky Smith disagreed. "This child had two detached retinas. This child had subdural hematomas," Smith said. "This was not a brief loss of thought process by the defendant. This is in no way in nature manslaughter."

Smith and police have said South was alone with his infant son Dec. 14, 2013, when the boy was injured and later died of head injuries.

The child's mother has not made any statements in the case. Patrick said during the sentencing that he received a letter from her supporting South but the letter was not read publicly.

Bond denied for man charged in baby son's death

9-month-old suffered several injuries, including fractured skull

UPDATED 11:00 AM CST Jan 08, 2015

JACKSON, Miss. —A judge denied bond Thursday a father accused in the death of his 9-month-old son.

Officers were called Sunday to a home in the 100 block of Evans Drive, where they found Corey Kees dead, police said.

An autopsy performed Monday revealed that the baby suffered several injuries, including a fractured skull, which were consistent with blunt-force trauma, police said.

Investigators arrested Jerry Michael Alexander Kees and charged him with capital murder, police said.

Gary Belk lives next door to the home on Evans Drive where the baby died. Belk said his neighbors told him that doctors had discovered a health problem with the baby.

"Right after it was first born it had, they said, a bone disease. It was broken," Belk said.

Belk said his neighbor called him the other night to tell him that the baby had died.

"He didn't say why or anything," Belk said.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible, police said.

Custodial dad found guilty of capital murder for torture killings of 4-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son; mom had been denied all contact (Mobile, Alabama)

JOHN DEBLASE has been on our killer dads and custody list since 2010--though DeBlase's custody status is not mentioned in this particular article. In fact, he had FULL CUSTODY, and the mother had been barred by the father from having any contact with these kids. As is sickeningly evident, especially if you read our earlier posts, Daddy and his girlfriend/common law wife slowly and viciously tortured these children to death.

Once again, we see how violent fathers utilize child custody to punish mothers and secure total access to their victims.

And as usual, the media at the conviction stage utterly failed to report the custodial status of the killer father, so the public is left unaware of how these crimes are essentially set up and made possible.

See our earlier posts on this case here.

DeBlase Found Guilty of Capital Murder

Posted: Nov 05, 2014 1:27 PM EST Updated: Nov 05, 2014 6:30 PM EST

By WKRG Staff

John DeBlase. on trial for the brutal murder of his two young children, has been found guilty of three counts of capital murder.

The judge will determine whether the sentence warrants the death penalty or life in prison without the chance of parole either Thursday or Friday.

There is no indication whether DeBlase, 31, plans to appeal the verdict at this time.

DeBlase is accused of poisoning his two children in 2010 and burying their bodies in two different states.

News 5's Ashley Knight was in the courtroom as the verdict was read. The judge instructed the court for there to be no reaction upon hearing the verdict. As such, DeBlase showed no visible emotion when the guilty counts were read aloud.

Here's Ashley Knight's full report:

As the jury came into the courtroom, John Deblase looked up for the first time, as if trying to read the faces of the jurors. Then, you see him look back down and shake his head as if he sensed what was coming.

For the past three weeks, jurors have sat patiently, and listened to everything the defense and prosecution threw at them. It all boiled down to whether you believe Deblase's actions were intentional, or if he was just a negligent parent.

The defense, focusing on making Deblase's girlfriend, Heather Keaton, out to be the monster, portraying Deblase as a quiet, loving father who was manipulated by an evil woman. They said Keaton was jealous of Natalie's relationship with her father. And when she couldn't control the children, she killed them. They agreed their client was guilty, but not of capital murder—and instead asked for a lesser charge of manslaughter which would imply Deblase did not realize the situation would lead to the children's deaths.

The prosecution focused on the brutality of the murder. That 4-year-old Natalie's hands, feet and mouth were duct taped before she was put in a suitcase for hours until, they say, Deblase came and choked her to death, her body dumped in the woods in Citronelle. Months later, 3-year-old Chase was said to have been duct taped to a broom before meeting the same fate as his sister. His body was dumped outside Vancleave, Mississippi. They say Deblase stood by and watched Keaton abuse the children in the days leading up to their deaths and did nothing—stressing the point that all parents have a legal obligation to protect their children.

Rich made it clear the jury could send back a capital murder charge if they believe Deblase simply helped Keaton in the deaths.

After the verdict, Deblase's parents were too distraught to give a comment.

“Is there anything you'd like to say about John?"

“Not today," says mother Ann Deblase.

After the verdict, the jury was dismissed and will come back in the morning to start the sentencing phase. They will listen to testimonies given by character witnesses and the jury will then decide if Deblase will see life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

Custodial dad on trial for torture-murders of 3-year-old son, 4-year-old daughter; non-custodial mom blames herself, though she was forced to give up custody for lack of job (Mobile County, Alabama)

Gee, I suppose if Daddy was really having that many problems with the new gal pal taking care of the kids, he COULD have handed them back to their Mom and paid CHILD SUPPORT (and maybe alimony) so she could afforded to take care for of them. But he didn't do that, did he?

Custodial dad JOHN DEBLASIO is full of crap. He sounds like a classic sociopath who just reveled in torturing these kids. And his new girlfriend sounds about as bad as he was.

The mother of two young children who were allegedly choked to death by their father wept in court today as she told of how she had trusted her ex-husband to care for them.

Wiping away tears, Corrine DeBlase said she had given up custody of her daughter Natalie, four, and three-year-old son Chase to John DeBlase in 2008 because she thought he was a 'good father'.

Dressed in a pink top with her hair scraped back, she told the court: 'He was their father, he was supposed to protect them. That's what a father is supposed to do.'

She added: 'Nobody can blame me more than I can blame myself. I know there are things I could have done then. I was their mother I should have done something.'

Natalie and Chase were killed in Mobile County, Alabama, in 2010. Chase's remains were found in a wooden area in Vancleave, Mississippi, in December 2010, six months after he was killed.

His sister's remains were discovered in Cintronelle days later. DeBlase, then 27, and his common-law wife, Heather Keaton, then 22, have been charged with murder. They have blamed each other.

Taking to the witness stand today, Mrs DeBlase said she had been forced to give up custody of her 'well-mannered' children after she lost her job and home, and her marriage collapsed.

She said that her ex-husband mainly treated Natalie like 'his little princess', but had once 'popped her in her mouth' when she was suffering from a night terror, according to AL.com.

She said the last time she had seen her children was November 17, 2009. A year later, she was told the youngsters were missing, Fox 10 reported.

'They were my heart. It may not seem the way they make it look but I loved them so much. I loved them so much and I can’t have no more (kids),' Mrs DeBlase told the court.

Yesterday, Brandon Newburn a former cellmate of DeBlase, claimed the suspect wrote a series of letters saying he choked the youngsters to 'end their suffering' at the hands of Keaton.

In the 10 letters, DeBlase reportedly said Keaton rained 'tortures and abuse' on his children at their home in Mobile County, Alabama, before finally giving him an ultimatum that it was 'her or the kids'.

The father also allegedly revealed that Keaton was spiking his children's sippy cups with antifreeze because she wanted to 'break their spirits so they would be more obedient to her will'.

In the hours before their deaths, the stepmother duct-taped and gagged the helpless youngsters, according to the letters, the TV station reported.

DeBlase then allegedly wrote he 'picked them up in the air and choked them to death... where their bodies hung lifeless,' adding: 'I know what I did was wrong, but she left me no choice.'

The defense contends Newburn coerced DeBlase and cannot be trusted.

Natalie was reportedly killed at her father's Peach Place apartment on March 4, 2010. Her brother died on June 20, 2010, according to police.

DeBlase's trial continues.

Custodial dad to go on trial for antifreeze poisoning-torture murders of 5-year-old daughter, 2-year-old son (Mobile, Alabama)

We have reported on torture killer daddy JOHN DEBLASE since this case first broke four years ago. What is not reported here is that this CUSTODIAL FATHER viciously kept these children he considered a "personal liability" away from their mother. Daddy, like many abusive fathers, denied all contact while the authorities did nothing. According to the mother, she had not seen the kids in at least a year. See previous posts here.

Trial to begin for Alabama father accused of poisoning children with antifreeze

John DeBlase has been behind bars while awaiting trial in the murder of his two children, Natalie, 5, and Chase, 3, since December 2010. The 30-year-old is accused of torturing the children with their stepmother for months before killing them separately and hiding their bodies in Alabama and Mississippi.

BY Nina Golgowski / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Sunday, October 12, 2014, 7:36 PM

An Alabama father accused of torturing and poisoning his two children with antifreeze before dumping their bodies in trash bags four years ago is finally going to trial.

The capital murder trial for John DeBlase, 30, is set to begin in Mobile Tuesday in the sickening deaths of his two children, Natalie, 5, and Chase, 3, in 2010.

DeBlase and his common-law wife, Heather Leavell-Keaton, have both pleaded not guilty after the children's skeletal remains were recovered in Alabama and Mississippi, one month after they were reported missing, though they had not been seen for months, Mobile's Press-Register reported.

Chase, who was described as only wearing diapers when he was found in woods north of Vancleave, Miss., on Dec. 8, 2010, is believed to have died on June 20 after enduring months of abuse and poisoned meals that left him violently ill.

His older sister, whose body was found two days later in woods near Citronelle, Ala., is believed to have died earlier on March 4 after facing similar, if not worse, abuse.

The little girl had been burned with cigarettes and hot candle wax, had her hair pulled and was beaten with a fly swatter by Leavell-Keaton, who was her stepmother, before she was heartlessly locked in a suitcase on the day she died, Mobile police Detective Angela Prine testified in September 2011.

Leavell-Keaton — whose trial is scheduled to begin on March 25 — has been accused of being jealous of the little girl and of torturing both children before teaming up with DeBlase to kill them for a life free of responsibilities.

Authorities have said that Chase survived a bit longer than his sister when the couple considered keeping him alive despite previous poisonings.

He was ultimately considered a "liability," however, when he was seen crying and asking for his sister in public after her death, according to the detective's testimony.

Among the horrific allegations of abuse, Prine said Leavell-Keaton confessed to killing the children to a fellow inmate and that DeBlase first poisoned their dog with antifreeze "to see how long it would take to kill a living thing," the Press Register reported. Authorities search woods near Citronelle, Ala. where the body of 5-year-old Natalie DeBlase was found in December 2010. Her recovery came two days after her brother's in Mississippi. Authorities said they bought gallons of antifreeze at a Walmart to prepare. In addition to three counts of capital murder with DeBlase, Leavell-Keaton also faces two counts of aggravated child abuse.

Custodial dad accused of killing 5 children once threatened to "snap wife's neck" and "kill the neighbors"; why wasn't this vicious criminal in jail instead of being awarded custody? (Lexington County, South Carolina)

This pisses me off to no end. Some dude threatens to kill you, and has assaulted you in the past. He threatens to kill the neighbors. The response of the police: a pamphlet on domestic violence and information on obtaining a (frequently useless) order of protection. Wow.

No wonder the mother didn't push prosecution. It was pretty clear that any effort to do so would have been totally ineffective and only piss of the abuser. She got the message big time: We don't give a sh**, you're on your own, lady.

So of course the abuser gains total control of the kids and moves them out of state after the divorce--something divorcing mothers with custody are almost never allowed to do these days.

All news accounts thus far have been very vague as to the role of the family courts in all this, which I suspect is intentional. After all, as reporters often say, if you go after a judge, you might as well dig two graves: one for the judge and one for you. And that's if you're lucky, because it could very well just be your grave.

But it didn't even stop there. Even after allegations of child abuse are raised, the kids were STILL RELEASED BACK TO THE FATHER. Why? Who was responsible for that bone-headed decision that lead to the cold-blooded murder of five children? Let's see the names, people.

The police/courts/DSS system utterly failed this mother. I'm surprised they even went through the motions of  searching after the mother reported the children as missing.

Yet another case where the powers managed to totally enable and support the killer father. And yet their roles in all this will be kept unmentioned and invisible.

Report: Accused Lexington killer of 5 children once threatened to ‘snap wife’s neck’

By JOHN MONK October 3, 2014 Updated 13 hours ago

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — The accused killer of five Lexington County children once threatened to “snap” his wife’s neck, according to a 2012 incident report released by the sheriff’s department.

Timothy Ray Jones Jr. “made the threat while they (he and his wife, Amber Marie Jones) were in a heated argument,” the May 29, 2012, report said.

he report gives one of the first public looks at the tensions within the Jones family. It also reveals that Timothy Jones, an ex-convict from Illinois, had tattoos of two deadly creatures – a scorpion on his upper right arm, and a cobra snake on his upper left arm.

Information came from Amber Jones, who went to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to report her husband’s alleged threats. There, she talked to Deputy K. P. O’Dell, who took down her information and wrote up the report.

At the time of the threats, Amber and Timothy Jones were separated and had four children.

Since that report, they had another child, Elaine, and divorced. Jones, 32, now faces murder charges in the deaths of all five of his children – Merah, 8; Elias, 7; Nahtahn, 6; Gabriel, 2; and Elaine, 1. Their bodies were found in garbage bags in Alabama in early September, days after Amber Jones reported the children and their father missing. Timothy Jones led authorities to the bodies, investigators have said.

The children’s deaths have stunned the Lexington County community and attracted national attention.
Jones was a well-paid computer engineer with Intel in Lexington County.

Amber Jones has not spoken publicly about her husband or their children.

During her 2012 interview with O’Dell, Amber Jones also told the deputy of her husband’s other threats and menacing actions – such as spitting in her face and “head-butting” her, according to the report.

Timothy Jones also “threatened to shoot the neighbors,” Amber Jones told the deputy.

The incident report notes that Amber Jones was given a pamphlet on criminal domestic violence. She also was advised on how to obtain a protection order, the report says. It is not known whether she ever got one.

Nancy Barton, an expert on domestic violence, said the incident report contains at least two “lethality indicators” – the threat to kill neighbors, who are outside the family, and the threat to “snap” his wife’s neck.

“That’s clearly a death threat – to snap the neck,” Barton said.

A “lethality indicator” means the person making the threat might kill the partner, though that’s not certain, Barton said. She added it was good that the deputy at least gave Amber Jones information about domestic violence.

The report classifies Amber Jones’ allegations as “Family Offense – Non Violent.” It also says Amber Jones came to the sheriff’s department because “she wanted to document the incident, and she should have in the past.”

On June 26, 2012, the status of the case was listed as “exceptionally cleared.” Amber Jones had declined to prosecute, the report said.

As released by the sheriff’s department, the report was redacted – meaning information was deleted that the sheriff’s department lawyer believed was confidential or might interfere with the prosecution of Timothy Jones. A sheriff's spokesman Friday declined to release any additional information about the incident report, citing a judicial gag order and the ongoing investigation.

In the last month, the S.C. Department of Social Services released sketchy information about three encounters its case agents had with the Jones family:

• From September 2011 to October 2012, DSS investigated the Jones family after an allegation of neglect, and services were provided. During that time, the father and mother separated and the father took the children to Mississippi, where his family lived.

In 2013, Amber and Timothy Jones were divorced, according to records in the Lexington County courthouse.

• On May 5 of this year, the family was back in South Carolina, and DSS got a report alleging physical abuse by Timothy Jones. The Lexington County DSS and two sheriff’s department deputies jointly interviewed him. The children apparently were released into their father’s care. The report didn’t say to whom the abuse was directed. That case was closed July 24.

• On Aug. 7 of this year, DSS got another report alleging physical abuse, but it didn’t specify the target of the abuse. DSS and sheriff’s deputies went to the home and examined the children, who were left in their father’s care.

In early September, when Amber Jones reported her children missing, the Jones family matter remained “an open investigation.”

The children’s bodies were located in rural Alabama Sept. 9. Authorities believe they had been dead since late August and were killed in Lexington County.

Although results of autopsies have yet to be released, authorities said they believe they died from strangulation.

Custodial dad who slaughtered five kids was investigated AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES for beating, starving them, but caseworkers did nothing; dad also convicted felon (Red Bank, South Carolina)

When we first reported on this case, I predicted that the "daddy just snapped" story would just collapse with more information. And sure enough, this "good" dad has a criminal record including substance addictions issues AND a history of child abuse (beatings, withholding food) that CPS workers ignored REPEATEDLY. As in AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES.

Meanwhile, the worst we are told about Mom is that she may have had an affair (or maybe not, depending on whether you believe this killer of five innocent children). Otherwise, everybody reports she seems like a very nice person.

Once again, we see what LIES the fathers rights people spread. In reality, fathers are not discriminated against. Even drug-addicted, violent fathers with a criminal record get full custody--only to kill the kids, because it was about control anyway. And how CPS and the courts collude in these crimes.

Dad is identified as TIMOTHY RAY JONES JR.

Though I have not posted all these articles about this vicious killer, many continue to fawn over him, make excuses for him, plead what a nice guy he is. Totally disgusting. The same claims would never be made about a mother who did this.

Who gave this father custody? Who are the (so far) unidentified therapists who totally misjudged this piece of sh**?

Father who killed children was investigated for abuse

Reuters September 12, 2014, 10:37 am

South Carolina child protection workers visited the family of a man accused of killing his five children at least a dozen times since 2011 in response to reports of abuse and neglect, state records released show.

The children, aged 1 to 8, said father Timothy Ray Jones Jr., 32, spanked them and made them do push-ups for punishment, but they did not appear afraid of him, according to workers, who did not remove the children from his care.

In notes about their most recent visit on August 7, social workers said Jones, a divorced father with legal custody of the children, seemed overwhelmed. However, after investigating a report that he was beating the children and not feeding them enough, workers did not find them to be in immediate danger.

Police say the children were already dead by the time South Carolina authorities learned on Monday that the children's grandmother in Mississippi had reported them missing after they did not show up for a planned visit.

Following his arrest on unrelated charges in Mississippi on Saturday, police said Jones confessed to the slayings and led them to his children's decomposing bodies, which he had wrapped in garbage bags and dumped near a rural logging road in Alabama. Authorities have not said how the kids were killed.

Jones is expected to be arrested on murder charges after being returned to South Carolina on Thursday.

He likely killed the children soon after he picked them up from school and day care in late August, Lexington County Sheriff Lewis McCarty has said.

Jones, who worked for Intel at its office in Columbia, South Carolina, was also possibly accused of other unrelated criminal acts before.

In 2002, a Timothy R. Jones with the same birth date was sentenced in McHenry County, Illinois, to prison time for charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, burglary, forgery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He served 18 months behind bars, including time spent in county jail, before getting released on parole from prison in 2003, according to Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman Tom Shaer.

Records from South Carolina's Department of Social Services, which has been criticised by lawmakers in the past of mishandling child welfare cases, show the agency had long been aware of the Jones family. Child welfare workers began visiting the family at their Leesville home in fall 2011 when there were only three children, and continued through their mother's last two pregnancies, as well as after Jones reported his wife had left him "for a younger man."

The visits stopped for a time after fall 2012, when workers said Jones took the children to Mississippi, where he had relatives.

The state resumed contact in May after a report that Jones was beating the children, records show. Jones said he had grabbed a child by the back of the shirt and lifted him up because he destroyed his brother's toy.

Caseworkers concluded there was not enough evidence to arrest Jones.

"Really good" custodial dad murders five children and dumps their bodies in the woods (Wilcox County, Alabama)

You know what really makes me sick? When some f***er like this one, who slaughtered his five kids, is praised as a "really good dad." Guess we set the bar pretty low, eh? Just what do you have to do to be a not-so-good dad? Slaughter 20 people?

I don't buy that this guy "snapped" for one minute. In almost all these kinds of cases, IF it involves mental illness, there is a history of mental illness. So either one of two scenarios happened.

1) Some judge gave a drug-addicted, deeply mentally ill, and demented father custody of five young children because?

2) Some judge gave a drug-addicted, deeply violent, and abusive father with custody of five children because?

Either way, we're not told who gave this piece of sh** custody or why the mother was shoved out of their lives. Probably just another example of an abusive and violent daddy (with an enabler father) who set out to punish/control the mother by stripping her of her kids, and then killed the kids like so many rabid dogs.

I want to see the judge's name.

Bodies of Five Children Found in Alabama Woods: Police

By Tracy Connor

The bodies of five young children were found in the woods of Alabama on Tuesday, and police said they are believed to be siblings who were reported missing in South Carolina a week ago.

The children’s father, Timothy Ray Jones Jr., 32, was in custody in Mississippi, where police stopped his blood-soaked Cadillac Escalade over the weekend, a prosecutor told NBC News.

“God help me and God help my son,” Jones Jr.’s father told NBC News after learning that police had found the five bodies in an undeveloped clearing off Highway 10 in Wilcox County, Alabama.

His son has not been charged in connection with the deaths of the children, who ranged in age from 1 to 8. He was being held on a charge of driving under the influence while the investigation continued, said Daniel Jones, the district attorney of Smith County, Mississippi.

The DA said it was likely he would be prosecuted in South Carolina.

“What we believe has occurred is he killed the children in South Carolina and drove to Alabama with them,” he said.

He said that the father, who was allegedly high on synthetic marijuana when he was detained in Mississippi, made incriminating statements and gave investigators the information that led them to the bodies in Alabama. Notes referring to violence against the children were also found, he said.

“I wouldn’t say he made a full confession, but he said enough,” the DA said.

Asked about a motive, the prosecutor said the suspect — who was described as a computer genius — claimed the children were plotting to kill him.

“I think he probably just went mad,” he said.

Timothy Jones Sr. said the last time anyone had seen his son at work or the children at school in Lexington County, South Carolina, was Aug. 28.

The six of them were supposed to travel to Mississippi for a family gathering on Labor Day weekend but never arrived, he said. He said that on Sept. 3, he made a missing persons report.

Meanwhile, the mother of the children also reported them missing on Sept. 3 after she could not reach her ex-husband, who had custody of the kids, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones Jr. was not heard from until Sept. 6 when he was stopped at a checkpoint, where he encountered a sheriff’s deputy who “had been around long enough to know the smell of death,” the DA said. “He picked up on it immediately.”

The deputies opened the doors of the Escalade and “saw he had taken bleach and poured it all over the back of the Escalade,” the DA said. “You could tell where it bleached the carpet but the blood was still there and there were maggots. They took him into custody at that time and as he came off the synthetic marijuana he began to talk about what happened.”

The elder Jones said his son had no history of violence or emotional problems. He had primary custody of the children after his divorce was finalized a year ago.

“He’s been a really good dad,” he said shortly before getting the tragic news from Alabama.

Miss. father faces assault charge over son’s injuries

Associated Press, @ap 8:21 a.m. CDT April 10, 2014

SAUCIER, Miss. – Officials say a 40-year-old Saucier man was arrested on a felony assault charge after he allegedly took a belt to the back of his child’s legs and picked the boy up by the neck and choked him.

Harrison County sheriff’s Maj. Ron Pullen tells The Sun Herald Kelton McCuien assaulted the child April 2 after learning the boy had gotten in trouble at school.

School officials notified deputies of the boy’s injuries April 3 and investigators arrested McCuien on Tuesday.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services took the boy and his siblings into protective custody pending a judge’s ruling.

McCuien is being held at the Harrison County jail on a $35,000 bond.

He faces a charge of aggravated domestic assault.

It was unclear whether McCuien has an attorney.
