11-week-old baby dies in motel room with father, father's girlfriend; what happened to the mother? (Springfield, Missouri)

Hmm. Just wondering out loud here. Why was UNNAMED DAD, who was apparently homeless (and unemployed?), in a motel room with an 11-week-old baby without the mother present?

Notice that this account states that this is the father's girlfriend who was in the room, not the mother.

Did Daddy have custody? Visitation? What happened to the mother? Who gave the father access and why?

Research has determined that visitation is terrible for infants this age, and at best it creates attachment problems. Certainly this poor baby didn't benefit in any way from giving Daddy access.

So far, police say they have found nothing suspicious about the little girl's death.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- City police are investigating the death of an 11-week-old baby at a motel early Saturday. The baby was in the room with her father, the father’s girlfriend, and the girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter.

Police say someone called 9-1-1 shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday because the baby wasn’t breathing. The girl was sleeping in a car seat, according to a police report. Emergency medical responders rushed to the Budget Inn, 2455 N. Glenstone Ave., but they weren’t able to revive the baby, who was born on June 20.

The father and his girlfriend told police that the baby seemed to be fine, as of 9 p.m. Friday. State law requires childrens' deaths to be investigated, but Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Cox said emergency responders saw nothing suspicious at the scene. Toxicology reports from an autopsy could take a couple of months or more.

The police report lists the father’s address as the Missouri Hotel, 420 E. Commercial St. That’s a facility run by The Kitchen, Inc., for people without permanent homes.
