A Scottsbluff man has agreed to plea to charges of child abuse after being accused of seriously injuring his child.

Nathan Pace, 34, of Scottsbluff, had been charged in February of intentionally committing child abuse resulting in serious injury, a Class II felony. On Thursday, he appeared for a pre-trial hearing and entered a plea of no contest to an amended charge of intentionally committing child abuse, without causing injury, a Class III A felony.

Pace had been charged after his son, then 2 months old, was treated at Regional West Medical Center and transferred to a Colorado hospital.

During an investigation, doctors told police that the infant had suffered a subdural hematoma, or bleeding on the brain and a fractured clavicle. Doctors told police that the infant’s injuries were not accidental and he suffered traumatic brain injury.

The child has reportedly recovered from his injuries.

Pace is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County District Court.
