Sick toddler found in Raleigh street; father charged

Raleigh, N.C. — A 31-year-old Raleigh man is facing charges after neighbors found his 2-year-old daughter walking in the middle of the street in need of medical attention, according to court documents.

Curtis Van Bryant, of 2624 Sanderford Road, was charged Saturday with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

Court documents state that Bryant left his daughter and two stepsons, ages 13 and 10, alone at home for an extended period of time. The house was not locked, the front door was left wide open and, when officers arrived, the house "reeked of marijuana," authorities allege.

A small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the house, documents state.

The toddler was found in the middle of the street, wearing hardly any clothes, a dirty diaper and no shoes. She had vomited all over herself and was transported to WakeMed. Her condition was not released.

Bryant was being held Saturday in the Wake County jail under a $15,000 secured bond.
