FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man who served time for the death and sexual assault of an 18-month-old faces charges of abusing his own child, as does the toddler's stepmother.
Fayetteville police said in a news release Friday that 38-year-old Jimmy Tyrone Baldwin and 25-year-old Chaka Baldwin are each charged with felonious child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
Police say the child's biological mother brought the 2-year-old to a hospital on June 11 after she received the child back from Jimmy Baldwin, the child's father. The child has been released from the hospital.
Jimmy Baldwin was released from prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 1998 death and sexual assault of a child.
He remained in custody Friday under a $250,000 bond. Chaka Baldwin was released on bond. It wasn't clear if either has an attorney.

Durham, N.C. — A Durham father has been charged with felony child abuse after his 8-year-old son died at a Raleigh hospital Sunday night.
Thomas Harrison, Jr., 31, of 4922 Old Page Road in Durham, was arrested and charged Monday.
Investigators said that Jonathan “MileMile” Miles Pittman was abused while staying with Harrison at his Durham apartment over the weekend. A search warrant stated that Pittman was complaining of stomach pain and had vomited several times when he was hospitalized.
An obituary for Pittman, who was a third grader at Wake Christian Academy, said that he loved sports and video games, as well as remote control cars and robots.
“Jonathan was full of joy and a blessing to everyone he met. He had a sweet heart and always looked for ways to help those around him,” the obituary said. “He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed the simple things of live, such as taking his shoes and socks off and throwing them anywhere, frequently in multiple locations.”
Harrison was being held at the Durham County Jail under a $1.5 million bond. His next court appearance was scheduled for April 19.
"Earlier this week, we were made aware of the unexpected death of one of our elementary students. Our school is a big family, and we are heartbroken. Currently we are focused on ministering to our students and helping them during this very difficult time," Mike Woods, head of Wake Christian Academy said in a statement Thursday night. "We are praying for the family and ask for the community to do the same. We trust our God and His love for us. While we don’t always understand His purpose, we know He has a perfect plan for each of our lives."
Authorities said they are waiting on a ruling from the state Medical Examiner to determine if charges against Harrison will be upgraded.
A funeral for Pittman was scheduled for Friday in Raleigh and a service honoring his life was scheduled for Saturday in Durham.

Mom blamed for "allowing" violent pedophiliac father to live with her; father now charged with murdering 3-year-old daughter (Raleigh, North Carolina)
So a mother with three kids under seven is blamed by the authorities for "failing" to keep the kids safe from their homicidal, suicidal, (allegedly) mentally ill father who has also admitted to having pedophiliac fantasies.
They order her to take lots of (useless) classes and get an (often useless) order of protection, but apparently do nothing to get him off the streets or out of the home, and do nothing to actually support of her. He should have been thrown in a mental hospital a long time ago, but no. Blame Mom for trying to cope with this violent man alone.

Contrast with the custodial father in the post below, who dumped his kid on a girlfriend with suicidal, self-cutting, drug addiction issues. He does nothing to intervene, despite previous CPS concerns, and isn't blamed at all much less arrested.

A man accused of trying to drown his children had been living with them and their mother in Durham for nearly six months despite Wake County Human Services recommendations that he have no contact with them.
Alan Tysheen Eugene Lassiter, the 29-year-old father of three, is in Central Prison now, accused of one count of first-degree murder in the drowning death of his 3-year-old daughter and two charges of attempted murder related to an incident in Durham on Sept. 21.
On that Sunday evening, police said Lassiter threw Calista, 3, and her 5-year-old sister Bethany into a pond at the Audubon Lake apartments, near The Streets at Southpoint.
Police said Lassiter called 911 just after 9 p.m. and said Child Protective Services was trying to take his children. The caller told the dispatcher he had tried to get help because he was dealing with “pedophilia things” and “sexual desires,” but that the agency turned its back on him.
Lassiter’s 7-year-old son, Alan Lassiter Jr., was at the pond but got away.
Off-duty Durham County Sheriff’s Deputy David Earp, who lives at the apartment complex, pulled the girls from the pond. Calista was unconscious and died at the hospital two days later.
Wake County Human Services acknowledged on Friday that it was conducting internal reviews and an investigation into its involvement with the Lassiter family.
Though the work of Child Protective Services typically is kept confidential, state law allows the disclosure of information in the event of a child’s death.
Wake County Human Services became involved with the Lassiter family on Feb. 8, when a report of alleged neglect of Calista and her siblings came to the office.
Alan Lassiter, according to the report, was having suicidal and homicidal thoughts, which included harming the children.
Human Services workers began an immediate assessment of the situation, which included meeting with the three children and their mother, Ashley Ivey Lassiter. Not only did the assessors learn that Alan Lassiter was having suicidal, homicidal and inappropriate sexual thoughts about his children, they also learned that he had been involuntarily committed at WakeBrook Crisis Stabilization Center.
After his discharge on Feb. 16, just eight days after the first report to Wake County Human Services, Alan Lassister reportedly went to Durham to live with family.
On Feb. 20, the Durham County Department of Social Services assisted Wake County by interviewing Lassister. Under the “safety plan” put in place, Lassister agreed to continue getting mental health treatment and have no contact with his children until cleared by Wake County Social Services.
By March 17, the case for neglect had been substantiated by Wake County assessors, and the family was referred to Child Protective In-Home Services, according to the report released Friday.
Both parents were required to participate in classes, counseling and treatment programs in an attempt to make the home safe for the children. Alan Lassister was required to take anger management classes as well as get mental health treatment, and he sought help finding work.
Ashley Lassiter was required to get counseling and training in parenting skills.
Between March 17 and Sept. 18, Wake County Human Services workers had multiple meetings with the family. Alan Lassiter, according to the report, was not getting mental health treatment as regularly as recommended, and they did not think he was in good enough shape to have contact with his children.
Ashley Lassister had been advised to obtain a domestic violence restraining order but did not follow through with that recommendation, the report states.
The report contends that Ashley Lassiter told the social worker that Alan Lassiter no longer lived with the family and that she did not think the court order was necessary.
But after the drowning incident, Wake County Human Services workers discovered that Alan Lassiter had been living with the children and their mother since April. The report also states that their investigation showed that the children’s mother allowed Alan Lassister “to take the children to Durham,” but does not specify when or where.
Wake County Human Services workers obtained a court order to place the surviving children in county custody after the fatal incident. According to the report released Friday by Lisa Cauley, the Child Welfare Division director with Wake County Human Services, the boy and girl remain in county custody.

Durham Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Alan Tysheen Lassiter is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of 3-year-old Calista Lassiter, who died at a hospital Wednesday.
It was three days ago that, according to police, Alan Lassiter tried to drown the girl and her sister in a pond at an apartment complex. Michael said the child was entirely underwater when an off-duty sheriff's deputy pulled her from the pond Sunday night.
Prior to the girl's death, the elder Lassiter was charged with three counts of attempted murder for trying to kill the three children. The 5-year-old who was floating in the pond crying has been released from the hospital, police said. The 7-year-old boy got away from his father and ran for help, they said.
Lassiter is jailed on $2 million bond and is awaiting a court hearing next month.
On Sunday night, Lassiter flagged down passers-by at the Audubon Lake apartments and told them he thought his son had been kidnapped and needed help finding him, apartment complex manager Sylvia Scott said Tuesday.
It wasn't until later that Lassiter told Scott and a 911 operator that he'd thrown his 3- and 5-year-old daughters in the pond, Scott said. The girls were pulled from about 5 feet of water by Durham County Sheriff's Deputy David Earp, who lives nearby.
Lassiter, 29, lived in Raleigh and apparently wound up at the apartment complex randomly, according to Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez.
Court records show Lassiter and his wife had a rocky start to their marriage six years ago.
Ashley Ivey sought a domestic violence protection order and signed a statement May 15, 2009, that said Lassiter "threatened to throw hot oil in my face and cut my hair off."
"He also threatened to take my son from me for a long time," the statement said. "All this started because I didn't want to marry him."
Ivey added that "things of this nature" had also happened previously.
Ivey voluntarily dismissed her complaint four days later.
Less than two weeks after that, Ivey and Lassiter were married.

Dwayne Lee Moore, 49, of 206 Estes St., is accused by Thomasville Police of burning his child with a cigarette Saturday. He has been charged with felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and misdemeanor communicating threats.
An officer with the Thomasville Police Department alleged in the arrest warrant that Moore burned his 15-year-old child’s left palm. Moore is accused of telling his child, “If you don’t get up, I’ll make sure you never go home again alive.”
Moore was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear Oct. 14 in Thomasville District Court.

We have the Clueless Neighbor swearing that dad SHAWN FULLER was a "pretty decent guy." Just can't "imagine" the father doing such a thing.
Seriously? Why does the media still interview the Clueless Neighbor?
At the very end, we find out that the police had been called to house for a "domestic dispute" before. So there is no mystery. This is totally typical. Shawn Fuller, 31, was found outside his Iredell County home Sunday morning by Sheriff's deputies.
The whole ordeal is still hard for neighbors like Rogelio Castro to comprehend. "I can't imagine my father doing something like that," Castro said. "To a bunch of kids."
Castro has a 3-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister who each played with the Fuller boys: 3-year-old Josiah and 4-year-old Uriah when the Fuller family would come up the road to their house. "Obviously they're upset, especially the mother," Campbell said. "She's in a safe location now."
Castro said his mother used to babysit the two Fuller boys. He says his entire family is in shock. "
They're just kids," Castro said. "How can you do something like that?"
Sheriff Campbell says they did respond to a domestic dispute call to the home back in May.

The whole ordeal is still hard for neighbors like Rogelio Castro to comprehend. "I can't imagine my father doing something like that," Castro said. "To a bunch of kids."
Castro has a 3-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister who each played with the Fuller boys: 3-year-old Josiah and 4-year-old Uriah when the Fuller family would come up the road to their house. A funeral was held Satruday morning to mourn the loss of Shaung Liu and her son, 5 month old Archer Liu. A vigil is scheduled to follow and will be held at the Jacksonville Commons Park.
The Liu's were found and pronounced dead by deputies near their Hunter's Creek home in Jacksonville on July 18th. Liu's boyfriend Sebastian Mendez was charged with the murder of both mother and baby.
A spokesman from the Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville said the family received friends between 9:30 and 10:30 this morning. The funeral service started at 10:30 and drew a crowd of more than 100 people. The vigil starts at 8:30.

A 20-year-old Morganton man will spend five to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to felony child abuse.
Austin Dean DeLoatch entered the plea to a charge of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury during Burke County Superior Court on Tuesday and was sentenced to serve active time in custody of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections by Robert C. Ervin, Superior Court Judge from Burke County.
On Oct. 24, 2014, investigator Ryan Stotts of the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to Grace Hospital for a report of a 1-month-old male child that had spiral fractures of both legs.
Investigation into the matter revealed that the child’s mother was at work when the crime occurred, and the child was fine at that time she left the home. DeLoatch, who is the child’s father, had been alone providing care for the child when the abuse took place and contacted the mother because the child would not stop crying.
They eventually took the child to the hospital for evaluation where it was determined the baby had a broken leg. Further evaluation at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte and Mission Hospital in Asheville revealed the infant had two broken legs along with other injuries. Doctors who treated the child at Levine and Mission indicated that the injuries to the child were consistent with a twisting of the legs and were highly unlikely to be accidental, noting they appeared to be the result of physical abuse.
Stotts was the lead investigator for the case and was aided in his investigation by Burke County Department of Social Services. Frank Webster handled prosecution for the District Attorney’s Office.

SPRUCE PINE, N.C. -- New developments in the case of a Mitchell County two-year-old who suffered a serious head injury.
The father of the toddler is now facing charges.
The police chief says the two-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and remains at Mission Hospital.
He says evidence points to the child's father as being the one responsible for his daughter's injuries.
On May 19th emergency responders were called to the Fairground Street Apartments to a report of a child that had fallen and was unresponsive.
When crews arrived, two-year-old Rosanna Baxley was found unresponsive. The girl's father told officers she fell off a bed and hit her head.
Rosanna was transported to Blue Ridge Regional Hospital then flown to Mission Hospital.
This past Tuesday, the girl's father, Michael Baxley, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
The police chief says evidence shows the injuries Rosanna sustained did not occur from falling off a bed, because of the severity. He also says because her body temperature had dropped below well below what it should be, the incident likely occurred well before the 911 call was made.
While in the hospital, Rosanna has had part of her skull removed.
The chief says she likely has a long road to recovery ahead. Chief Bill Summerlin, Spruce Pine Police Department, "her recovery is going to be critical from here on out and I'm sure that it's going to be a slow, agonizing process for her but she's off the ventilator and we still have hope."
Baxley had his first court appearance Wednesday and remains in jail on a $250,000 bond.
The chief says the father was the only one with Rosanna when crews arrived.

The female victim was taken to Womack Army Medical Center on May 29 by Young and his wife.
Young told medical personnel that he was home alone with the victim and their other infant child while his spouse was away from the home. Young said he accidentally spilled a cup of hot water on the child while removing the water from the microwave.
After the child was examined, medical officials determined the injuries were non-accidental and were not consistent with the father's statement.
The child was taken to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill on May 30 for treatment where the child is currently hospitalized and being treated for third-degree burns to the mid and lower extremities of her body.
The staff at the UNC Burn Center told authorities that the child's burns are consistent with being submerged in hot water.
Young was taken into custody Monday by Spring Lake Detectives.
He will be moved to the Cumberland County Detention Center Monday evening for processing.
Young is assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division unit at Fort Bragg.

PINEVILLE — A Pineville father is charged with child abuse, after police say the man's son has wandered away from home several times, and he didn't even know it.
Neighbor after neighbor along Pineville Street said they weren't surprised to hear Jerry Conner is charged with child abuse.
Police say at least twice, his 2-year-old son wandered far away from home, and someone called 911 to report it. #Channel 9's Stephanie Maxwell knocked on the door to the family's home, but no one answered.
She talked to one woman, who says she's had a few close calls with the boy.
"The child was in the road, and we almost hit him," says the woman who didn't want to give her name. "He wanders out toward the road a good bit."
Police say the 2-year-old even walked all the way to Lake Park back in April, just feet from a large body of water.
At that time, police say Conner told them-- the boy slipped out the door, and he didn't realize it. That stunned walkers at the park.
"For a 2-year-old to get from home to here, that's about 5, 10 minutes," said Adele Campbell. "If your child is out of your sight for two minutes, why are you not looking for him?"
Last Thursday, police arrested the father when the boy ended up a few streets over from their home. The woman who got close to hitting the toddler says she's always drives extra slow in the neighborhood, just in case.
"I just hate it because he's a precious little boy," she said.

Father accused of abusing two 9-year-old children

A father is accused of child abuse with his two 9-year-old children, joining their stepmother who was arrested earlier this month for the same charges, according to arrest warrants.
Lexington police officers have charged Nicholas Brandon Barnes, 29, of 5 Hackney St., with two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond for the charges.
Kimberly Marie Barnes, 36, of 205 Link Circle, was arrested May 1 and placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Detective Aimee Harvey of the Lexington Police Department alleged the stepmother and father committed the offenses in October 2014. They are accused of using excessive and inappropriate physical discipline on the children, which caused bruising on multiple areas of the body and face.
Earlier this month, Robby Rummage of the LPD said his agency received the case from social services.
While being arrested Sunday for the child abuse charges, Nicholas Barnes also was charged with misdemeanor larceny and resisting a public officer. An officer with the LPD alleges Barnes stole $17.50 in beer and tools from Walmart on Lowe's Boulevard. Father accused of abusing two 9-year-old children

A father is accused of child abuse with his two 9-year-old children, joining their stepmother who was arrested earlier this month for the same charges, according to arrest warrants.
Lexington police officers have charged Nicholas Brandon Barnes, 29, of 5 Hackney St., with two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond for the charges.
Kimberly Marie Barnes, 36, of 205 Link Circle, was arrested May 1 and placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
Detective Aimee Harvey of the Lexington Police Department alleged the stepmother and father committed the offenses in October 2014. They are accused of using excessive and inappropriate physical discipline on the children, which caused bruising on multiple areas of the body and face.
Earlier this month, Robby Rummage of the LPD said his agency received the case from social services.
While being arrested Sunday for the child abuse charges, Nicholas Barnes also was charged with misdemeanor larceny and resisting a public officer. An officer with the LPD alleges Barnes stole $17.50 in beer and tools from Walmart on Lowe's Boulevard. Barnes is accused of running and pulling away from an officer while being placed under arrest for larceny, according to an arrest warrant.

Custodial dad, girlfriend severely beat 2-year-old son; boy's entire body bruised (Marion, North Carolina)
Another near textbook example for hiding the abusive father's custodial status.
The reporter mentions that the woman is the girlfriend, and the man is the father. Those of us who are in tune to these things immediately recognize that this a custody/visitation--though the general public may not. If the girlfriend was in fact the mother, she would have been identified as such. But she wasn't.
Then we find that these two have been beating this poor toddler for at least a month. This is clearly not 50/50 joint custody then, as the mother either would have complained or would have been arrested for failure to protect. Neither of these scenarios are reported. Therefore she clearly has been shoved out of the picture somehow, and dad RANDY LYNN STILWELL JR. is custodial.
Given how brutally he treated this little boy, it is very likely that the mother received similar treatment and that he has a history of violence.
So who gave this violent father custody and why? What happened to Mom?

Samantha Lee Brasecker, 22, and Randy Lynn Stilwell Jr., 30, both of Geneva Drive in Marion, are charged with felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury, according to Brown.
Brown said Stilwell is the father of the 2-year-old victim, and Brasecker is Stilwell’s live-in girlfriend.
Investigators received information from the McDowell County Department of Social Services that the boy was bruised over his entire body, including his face, ears, abdomen, back, arms and legs.
Brown said further investigation showed that both suspects had repeatedly beaten the child for at least a month.
The victim and a 1-month-old boy have been removed from the home.

Once again, you have to wonder whether ANTHONY WAYNE YOUNG is a single father. Lots of showy stuff performed for the neighbors, of Daddy playing with the little girl outside--just a day before he (allegedly) stabbed her to death. NOT ONE mention of a mother in the home or anywhere else.

Father Charged in Death of Infant Daughter

RICHLANDS - In a quiet country neighborhood on the outskirts of town, the Onslow County Sheriff said a father murdered his one-year-old daughter early Sunday morning.
Anthony Wayne Young, 37, is being held in the Onslow County jail without bond, after Sheriff Hans Miller said the suspect called 911 early Sunday morning to admit to killing his daughter, Ruby Young.
"It appears that the cause of the death was severe loss of blood, of that little child, from a single laceration. There was blood at the scene,” said Miller.
Miller said the suspected murder weapon is a kitchen knife. He said they are still investigating a motive.
"Regardless of what the motive may be in the murder, it's not a proper thing to do, to take the life of a small child," Miller said.
Brett Futrell, who lives nextdoor, said he was surprised to hear Young was accused of murdering his daughter.
"Day before yesterday he was outside playing for hours with his daughter, picking flowers, and it just was a surprise to me," said Futrell, who has a two-year-old son himself.
Monday, Futrell and his son played outside among the crime scene tape draping through the trees of his property line. His young boy was unaware of the tragedy that happened next door.
"When I found out about it, I started crying," Futrell said. "I said I couldn't take it, because the first thing I thought about was [my son]. And it just drove me crazy. I couldn't deal with something like that."
The crime scene tape remained up most of the day Monday, as deputies continued to investigate and remove evidence from the scene, while an autopsy was being performed on the baby.
"We feel sorry for the loss of that little child, for no reason whatsoever," Miller said. Young was scheduled to make a first appearance at the Onslow County courthouse Monday, but court official said Young's attorney appeared for him instead.
The attorney said he was not in the right mental state to appear before a judge.

YADKINVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A Jonesville father was arrested Saturday after deputies say his 2-year-old child showed up at a medical facility with a fractured skull.
Bradley Scott Kennedy, 36, was charged with one count of felony negligent child abuse with serious bodily injury. He was also charged with one felony count of killing an animal by starvation.
On March 7, the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office received a report in reference to possible child abuse. The 2-year-old child was seen at medical facilities where it was determined that the infant had sustained a skull fracture.
Officials say the child with both parents.
During the investigation, detectives said they discovered other pending criminal charges associated with Kennedy.
Officials have not released any details about the animal abuse charge.
After posting a $150,000 bond, Kennedy was released.
His next court date is scheduled for May 19.

Dad gets life in beating death of 4-year-old son during visitation (Haywood County, North Carolina)
Sometimes these stories get past even us. When we initially posted on this story back in 2012, there was no mention of a mother or a step. So what was going on? It took a lot of searching, but according to this article (which unfortunately can't be pulled up in its entirely without a subscription), the little boy had been "visiting" Daddy and the step for a week. Whether the visitation was court-ordered or "voluntary" was not clarified. But then mothers are under enormous pressure to "facilitate" contact with biological fathers no matter how violent and abusive they are.
Dad is identified as MICHAEL SWAYNGIM, and is now on the Killer Dads and Custody list for North Carolina.

DURHAM- The "violent sleepwalking" defense worked for a man who strangled his 4-year-old and tried to kill his other two children.
A jury decided unanimously that Joseph Anthony Mitchell is not guilty of murder and attempted murder after an expert witness said he was effectively unconscious at the time of his attacks four years ago.
Jurors had asked Superior Court Judge James Roberson if they could consider a lesser verdict of manslaughter, but the judge said it was all or nothing: murder, or not guilty.
Mitchell, 50, sobbed after Wednesday's verdict, but made no comment as he walked out of court a free man.
His ex-wife, Christine Perolini, was so shocked that she hyperventilated and had to be wheeled out on a stretcher.
Mitchell testified that he was in financial distress and had not been sleeping well.
Prosecutors said those financial difficulties drove Mitchell to kill his son Blake and try to kill the others. Mitchell's 13-year-old and 10-year-old children said they fought him off.
But a defense expert said Mitchell's stress and lack of sleep likely resulted in "non-REM parasomnia," a sleep disorder whose sufferers can perform random acts unconsciously. Because of this disorder, he was incapable of exercising criminal intent, the expert said.
A psychologist who testified for the prosecution after repeatedly interviewing Mitchell said he had no mental condition that would have left him unconscious during the attacks, and that he must have consciously planned them.
