Dad "allegedly" murders mom, abducts 2-year-old son--only to be pulled over in DUI (Rock Hill, North Carolina)

We have a quaint little axiom here at Dastardly Dads: Any dad who assaults or murders the mother of his child before abducting said child does not have "quality time" in mind. And so it was with dad CARL WHITE JR. After "allegedly" shooting to death the mother of his 2-year-old son, he takes off with with the boy--only to be pulled over drunk on a DUI. Yea. Like I said. Good times....

Rock Hill police are charging Carl White Jr. in the shooting death of the woman with whom he fathered a son two years ago.

White was initially described by police as a "witness" in Saturday's death of 25-year-old Shrece Charlette Robinson.

But Lt. Brad Redfearn said Monday morning the situation changed after detectives interviewed White later Sunday in Aiken County, where he had been taken into custody by police after apparently trying to flee.

"Detectives from the Rock Hill Police Department interviewed Mr. White in Aiken County, where he confessed to the murder of Shrece Robinson," Redfearn said.

Two Rock Hill officers were responding to another incident Saturday when they heard gunshots coming from 234 Robinson St. in southwest Rock Hill, Redfearn said. They found Robinson dead in the driveway.

Through interviews, police found that Robinson and White, 28, were unmarried, but had a child together. That child, 23-month-old Zaylen Carlik White, was missing from the Robinson Street residence the two shared.

White was at the house at the time of the shooting but left with the boy in a friend's SUV, Redfearn said.

"We wanted to make contact with Carl White," Redfearn said. "Witnesses said he was distraught over what happened and was leaving the area. For the child's safety, we determined through SLED (S.C. State Law Enforcement) that we could post an Amber Alert."

An alert was posted about 8 a.m. Sunday.

About an hour later, Aiken County deputies stopped a black 2002 Ford Expedition on Interstate 20 and found White and his son inside. The SUV was headed south, approaching the Georgia border.

They initially charged White with driving under the influence and child endangerment, Redfearn said. The alert was immediately canceled.

The child, unharmed, was turned over to a representative from state DSS until family members can claim him.
