Police: Dad assaulted 2-year-old son while in his care, then assaulted Mom when she confronted him (Newport News, Virginia)

Not clear in this account whether dad JODECI BROWARD was merely babysitting or whether this was some kind of court-ordered custody/vistation situation.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News father is accused of assaulting his 2-year-old son and the child's mother.

Officers were called to the no hundred block of Carmella Drive on July 27. A woman called police to report that her 2-year-old child was injured while in his father's care. Jodeci Broward reportedly told the woman their son was hurt while riding his bicycle. They got into a fight over the incident and Mr. Broward allegedly assaulted Mrs. Broward.

Medics took the child to the hospital for evaluation.

Mr. Broward was taken into custody and charged with assault: malicious, victim severely injured, strangulation of another, assault on a family member and abuse/neglect of a child, causing serious injury.
