JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A Joplin man admits he smoked synthetic marijuana with his 15-year-old daughter and her 14-year-old girlfriend.
Forty-year-old William Hillegus pleaded guilty Monday to felony child endangerment in a plea deal that dismissed another drug charge against him.
The deal would limit a possible jail sentence to five years and allows the possibility that Hillegus could be placed on probation.
Hillegus was arrested in June 2011 after his daughter and her friend became ill after smoking a cigarette of the synthetic drug K2 with him. His daughter was admitted to a Joplin hospital with an elevated heart rate.
The Joplin Globe reports the daughter told police that Hillegus previously gave her K2 on her birthday and after a father-daughter dance.
Sentencing was scheduled for July 29.
