A 2-year-old girl who was locked inside a home with her suicidal father was unharmed Wednesday after a Phoenix SWAT team entered the house near 40th Street and Southern Avenue, officials said.

The 26-year-old man was taken into custody about 12:30 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said. He had locked himself and his daughter inside the home in the 4300 block of East Nancy Lane and refused to leave after an altercation with his girlfriend hours earlier, police said.

The girlfriend, also in her 20s, called police from a nearby convenience store around 8 a.m, officials said.

At one point during the negotiations with police, the man was considering suicide, authorities said.

No weapons were found in the house and the situation was resolved without a violent incident, Thompson said. Nancy Lane was closed between 43rd and 44th streets during the incident but has since reopened, Thompson said.
